John Sirois Obituary

John Sirois

Peterborough NH - Born November 16, 1949, in Nashua, New Hampshire to Marcel Edward Sirois and Marguerite Moran Sirois, John was in the first graduating class of Bishop Guertin High School and received his degree at NH Technical College. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and received an honorable discharge as a disabled veteran. John was a hairstylist by trade and owned, operated, and eventually sold two salons in the Monadnock area, including Calypso in New Ipswich and The Hairsmith in Peterborough.

As a young man, John discovered his passion for plein-air painting. He spent the next 40 years roaming the New England countryside with his easel and paints, setting up for hours in any season and all types of weather. He was fortunate to associate and study with several local New England painters, including artist Sidney Willis of Bennington, Lois Griffel of Cape Cod, Don Stone, and others. John eventually took students of his own and shared his love of painting through teaching. He opened his Union Mill studio every year for 25 years to participate in the Monadnock Art Tour. In recent years, he retired to Port Richey, FL, where his paintings took on the vivid palette of the American Southeast. His paintings are included in numerous collections around New England and throughout the country.

John is survived by Sandy Sirois, his wife of 54 years, his daughter Marcel Anne Sirois of Port Richey, FL, his sister Maureen Novak of Toronto CA, her husband Barry, and their son Jobim.

Dear Sandy and Marcel,
I am so deeply sad and so sorry to know that your dad and husband is no longer here.
I only knew him through Fb where he would share his latest beautiful painting, and l among many would critic it. His replies would always be so kind and so appreciated.
I hope that time will help to soften the pain that you both must be feeling, right now.

Oh, Sandy, I am so, so, so sorry to hear this news. You and John were an incredible pair, and I love you both. I've got several of John's paintings on the wall, and his big easel in the studio, where I use it every day and think of him. He was a wonderful artist and such a good man. I'm so glad he has so many works in the area, to remind us all of his vision and of himself. Love to you both. Mary Iselin

Aunt Sandy and Marcel, I am so sorry. I remember all those Thanksgivings together... I love Uncle John's paintings; I have one on a mug that I use for my morning coffee every day.

When I first met John, he was sitting on our front stoop playing his guitar - probably a Beach Boys´ tune. When our paths crossed over the years, John always had a kind word, helpful suggestions and a wry sense of humor. Our hearts go out to Sandy and Marcel. Barbara & Ira
