Kathleen Mullin Obituary

HANCOCK - Kathleen "Caitlin" Mullin, a resident of Hancock, passed away at the University of Mass. Medical Center, Worcester, Mass. on Nov. 26 after a brief illness. She was 74 years old.

Originally from Pasadena, Calif., Caitlin's interests were many and varied, and she pursued her talents around the world. She received an MA in Anthropology and Ethnomusicology from Columbia University under the mentorship of Margaret Mead. She worked closely with Alan Lomax, a pioneering ethnomusicologist. She then furthered her studies at UCLA focusing on cultural solutions for the management of anxiety and anger. For her PhD at The Institute of the Advanced Study of Human Sexuality, she made four films on the vulnerability of women to AIDS in South Africa. Caitlin had a successful career teaching music, writing music for public television, and later serving as a therapist for the County of Los Angeles. In the past decade, Caitlin produced both websites and videos for organizations such as the medical NGO Theta in Uganda, the African Community Refuge Center and various shelters and NGO's in New Hampshire and the Los Angeles area.

In 2006 Caitlin decided to move east and settled in Hancock in 2007. When asked why she chose Hancock, a small and picturesque New England village, she said "I want to spend the rest of my life as a member of a community." In Hancock, Caitlin was an active member of the Hancock Women's Club and a frequent participant at Hancock Library functions. She was active in the Cornucopia Project, the Mariposa Museum, Monadnock Music and many other local organizations. Caitlin was a thoughtful, engaged, and vibrant member of the community. Loved and admired by her many friends and colleagues, she will be greatly missed. According to her wishes, she will be buried on Catalina Island, Calif., in her family's resting place. Memorial contributions in Caitlin's memory may be made to the Harris Center for Conservation Education, 83 King's Highway, Hancock, N.H. 03449 - www.harriscenter.org. A gathering in remembrance will be held in Hancock in the spring.

While our paths diverged, my remembrances of Kathy( as she was known back then) are filled with warmth and deep respect. A lovely and charismatic human being. Godspeed, Caitlin.

The short time I knew Cate she left a memorable impression. She always had time to talk about many topics, which was always lovely conversations. I will think of her fondly walking past her house and every time I see a beautiful garden and cat her memory will come to mind.
