Marion Clark Obituary

Marion R. Clark

Peterborough, NH - In Loving Memory of Marion Rockwood Arlene Clark; Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother.

Marion (Rockwood) Arlene Clark, 94, of Peterborough, passed away peacefully at home on August 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Taunton, Massachusetts, on June 1, 1931, she was the daughter of Everett and Edna (Meserve) Rockwood.

Marion grew up in Mansfield, Massachusetts, and graduated from Mansfield High School. She loved watching sports-especially tennis, football, and the Boston Red Sox. She also enjoyed reading, puzzles, gardening, bird watching, and traveling. While visiting one of her brothers in Alaska, she met the love of her life, Richard Clark Jr. The two moved to California, where they married on July 7, 1957, and began raising their family.

Though she embraced life on the West Coast, Marion's heart remained tied to New England. More than once, she packed up her five children and drove across the country by herself, stopping at monuments, landmarks, national parks, and KOA campgrounds along the way.

In 1977, Marion and Richard-affectionately known as "M&D"-moved most of the family to Peterborough, New Hampshire. Marion worked for 17 years as the night supervisor at Brookstone before "retiring" to serve as a lunch lady at ConVal High School. She never let a child go hungry, though she was quick to remember if you owed her lunch money.

Family was always at the center of Marion's world. She especially cherished time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren during family gatherings and "World Wide Wednesdays," a tradition of enjoying meals from different countries. If she liked the dish, she would quietly say, "Mmmm, tasty," bringing smiles around the table. On sunny days, she loved sitting on the porch or patio with loved ones, sharing a glass of wine and treasured stories.

She will be remembered for her quiet strength, her devotion to family, and the countless small but meaningful ways she brought people together. Marion's warmth, humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Marion is survived by her husband of 68 years, Richard Clark Jr., and their five children: Deborah Heckman, Katharine Traquair, Richard Clark III, Stuart Clark, and Leslie Jacobson. She was also a proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marion's name to a charity of your choice.

A Graveside service will be held Friday, November 7, 2025, at 1:00 PM in Pine Hill Cemetery, 20 Sandhill Road, Peterborough, NH 03458.
