Richard Lessard Obituary

PETERBOROUGH -- Richard A. (Dick) Lessard, Sr., 73, of Peterborough, died after a sudden illness at his home on April 14, 2018. Dick was born in Goffstown, New Hampshire on June 13, 1944 the son of Arthur Lessard and Evelina (Zastre) Lessard.

Dick was raised in Weare, New Hampshire. He attended Weare High School and became a licensed plumber, working for various mechanical contractors through the Plumbing & Steamfitters Local No. 131 in Manchester. He was very proud of his work as a foreman on many hospital, school, and industrial projects.

Thirteen years ago he retired to spend more time with his family. He was an avid supporter of Conval and SMS athletics. He could often be found at various sporting events supporting his grandsons, great grand-children and other local athletes.

He, his wife, Judy and their dogs and cats liked to travel in their RV, towing the motorcycles along behind them. Last summer he drove 7600 miles in an 8-week cross country trip to the Oregon Coast and back. They spent several winters in Florida, and traveled to many states in search of "a great ride." Dick also enjoyed target shooting, and was a long-time member of the Peterborough Sportsmen's Club.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, Judith Lessard of Peterborough, he leaves his sons Richard Lessard, Jr., and his wife Angela, of Greenfield and Michael Lessard, and his wife Laurie, of Milford. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Jacob Lessard of Medford, Massachusetts and Zachary and Tyler Lessard of Greenfield. He also leaves his brother Leo McQuillan, and his wife, Priscilla, of Antrim.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at 3 p.m. at Monadnock Congregational Church, 120 Wilton Road, Peterborough, NH.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Richard's name to the Monadnock Humane Society, 101 West Swanzey Road, Swanzey, NH 03446.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

I was your neighbor from across the creek. I helped Dick build the reinforcing wall in the side yard around 1974-75. I remember Dick called it "The Great Wall of Diddle Hill." I was the kid he taught to drive the Jeep with the crane on the front that we used to stack the railroad ties.
