Stephen Fryer Obituary

Stephen Fryer

Jaffrey NH — Stephen "Steve" F. Fryer, 55, of Jaffrey, passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on Friday morning, October 22, 2021.

Stephen was born in North Hampton, MA, on July 6, 1966, a son of the late Malcom Forrest and Judith (Young) Fryer.

Stephen was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, whose family was first and foremost in his life. He will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Christine Rondeau-Fryer, and his five children, Stephen F. Fryer, Jr. and his wife, Madison, of Keene, NH, Colin D. Fryer and his wife, Alexis, of Rindge, NH, Brittany N. Rondeau of South Boston, MA, Nicholas E. Fryer, and Kendyl L. Fryer of Rindge, NH; his seven grandchildren; Trenton, McKenna, Camdyn, Charlie, Malcolm, Blake, Naomi, and one more on the way in December, and many nieces, cousins and friends.

Stephen was predeceased by both of his parents and by his brother, Eric J. Fryer.

Steve was passionate about serving his country. He served in the Marine Corps from May 16, 1984 to April 4, 1988, followed by additional service in the Army Reserves, and ending his time in the Massachusetts Army National Guard from May 1, 2007 to August 18, 2011. It was during this period that he was a Squad Leader and Vehicle Commander of a protective security detail for the US Department of State in Baghdad, Iraq from 2007 to 2008. He then went on to serve as a Squad Leader and Mission Commander for a Provincial Reconstructive Team in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan, from 2010 to 2011. Steve was recognized with multiple medals and ribbons for his service to his country.

In the intervals between Steve's service commitments, he held both a career in telecommunications, where he worked for NYNEX and Southwestern Bell Communications, and in fire and life safety, where he worked as a sprinkler fitter.

Steve was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved nothing more than being out in nature, especially with his son, Nicholas. He was a devoted fan of the Patriots, Red Sox, and the Bruins. Steve enjoyed cooking and trying new restaurants and dishes, especially in the company of family. Those who knew Steve knew that he took pride in helping others, whether they be fellow veterans, family members, or friends

A celebration of life for Stephen will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021, from 1:00pm to 5:00pm, at the American Legion Post 11 Hall on Webster Street in Jaffrey. All are welcome to attend.

Steve will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery.
