During his career he was able to live throughout New England, as well as in New York City, Washington, DC and Miami. He made lifelong friends everywhere he lived.

Family was important to Bill. He and Gloria married in March of 1969. They had two sons, Jason Gollan and Peter C Gollan. Bill's sister-in-law, Susan Bry Winske, was known to say that Bill was the brother she never had. Bill had a huge heart and was generous to those close to him.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Catherine (Coughlin) Gollan, his brother-in-law Ernie Winske, and sister-in-law Charlene Bry.
