EAST SANDWICH — A. Lois (Armstrong-McLaughlin) Howland, 77, of East Sandwich, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, at her home surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Barnstable, she lived her entire life in East Sandwich. She was the only daughter of Lindsay and Florence Armstrong. She was raised in East Sandwich, graduated Sandwich High School and graduated Lasell Junior College.

She was a longtime dispatcher and office manager of the Sandwich Fire Department. After 33 years of service with the town of Sandwich, she retired to enjoy gardening, traveling and her family. She was very involved as a board member for the Nye Family of America Association.

She is survived by her children, Gail M. Bettencourt of Dartmouth; Debra L. McLaughlin, Donna L. Jenkins, Willie McLaughlin and Kevin McLaughlin, all of East Sandwich; stepdaughter Kathleen Harlow of Framingham; and 8 grandchildren, Katie, Colleen, Jake, Eric, Bryan, Haley, Liam and Sofia.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at the East Sandwich Grange Hall, 87 Old County Road, in East Sandwich.

Clearly one of my favorite people from 1970`s Sandwich, I loved knowing so much, was Lois. I was a call firefighter back then...she was always there for all of us with a kind word.
I keep the McLaughlins in my most fondest of memories. Be Well.
