Aaron Blackburn Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 3, 2018.
Aaron Edward Blackburn, 43, of Fort Thomas, Ky., died October 26, 2018, following a brief illness.

He was born January 22, 1975, in Chillicothe, Ohio, to the late Samuel Blackburn and Linda Ziegler. In March 2013 he married his long-time best friend and love of his life, Kayla (Dunlap) Blackburn, who survives.

Aaron is also survived by his dear brother Jeremy Blackburn, whom Aaron fiercely loved, protected, cared and fought for his entire life. Aaron's relationship with Jeremy taught everyone who knew them the meaning of compassion and loyalty.

In addition to his mother and father, Aaron was predeceased by his grandparents Leo and Julia Blackburn and Edward and Rita Ziegler, as well as his beloved dog Sissy.

He attended Chillicothe High School and graduated from Unioto High School in Chillicothe, Ohio, in 1993. He attended the University of Cincinnati, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity. Aaron was one of those rare people who made close friends across many social circles and pursued the interests he loved without regard for labels. As one example, he was a Boy Scout throughout high school, including working at Chief Logan Reservation Boy Scout camp teaching young scouts waterfront skills. Simultaneously, he was an influential part of the central Ohio punk scene. It's no surprise that his loss has brought together old friends from across geographies and backgrounds to share memories of their friendships with Aaron.

Among the many adventures of his life, Aaron served in the Kosovo Force, the NATO peacekeeping mission that helped to stabilize Kosovo during the Yugoslavian and Serbian ethnic cleansing in the late 1990s. He also served as a probation officer specializing in domestic violence and sexual offenses in Tucson, Ariz., and as a case manager for Mentoring Plus, the teen mentoring program in Newport, Ky. During the past few years he re-discovered his passion for swimming, which led him to take a dream job as aquatics director of the Campbell County/Greater Cincinnati Area YMCA in January 2018.

Aaron's additional broad range of passions included his dogs (Julia and Leo, named for his grandparents), Trivial Pursuit, NPR, LEGO (especially Star Wars and Game of Thrones themed), politics, tennis, wrestling, the military, his Nissan 350Z, Storm Troopers, the Cincinnati Reds (and Pete Rose), pottery (especially Kayla's) and the TV show "Breaking Bad." His favorite music included Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles' "Abbey Road," and Al Green's "Let's Stay Together." Anyone who became friends with him on his highly entertaining social media pages enjoyed his vocal distaste for giant Hummer limos, which he turned into the popular "give a Hummer the bird" photo contest online.

Endearing details made Aaron a man who anyone would want to know. For example, each night he would light candles and prepare a cheese plate for his wife as she came home from work. He cherished the Indian costume that his mother hand made for him as a child. One of his favorite moments was meeting "The Lady Chablis" (known best from her appearance in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil) in person. She left a kiss mark on him that lasted all the way to New Orleans, because it wouldn't wash off. Aaron was overjoyed.

One friend suggested a perfect quote to describe Aaron from the character Augustus McCrae in one of Aaron's favorite books, Lonesome Dove: "Cheerful in all weathers. Never shirked a task. Splendid behavior."

A celebration of life will be held in January 2019 in the Cincinnati area; details will be announced. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Point Arc of Northern Kentucky at 104 West Pike Street Covington, KY 41011 or online at www.thepointarc.org.

Unsure why Aaron popped up in my mind tonight. Then I recalled he had passed away. As a former cog skills teacher at APO Aaron and I had a few nice chats about life, about clients. He was always respectful and thoughtful. His smile was always the brightest in our hallways. Just wanted you to know he is not forgotten.

Aaron was my work partner and dedicated friend who helped me through a rough patch in my life. He was supportive and a rock during those times. I am saddened that his light is no longer in this world. His kindness forever changed me.

Aaron and I went to college together and then worked together. He was a good friend and a great guy. He loved his family and I am going to miss him terribly. My thoughts and prayers are with you Kayla and with Jeremy. I've never met a greater person. I am blessed to have known him and lucky to have been able to call him friend.

I worked with Aaron, for several years, at the pima county probation dept in Tucson. He was not only a highly skilled professional, to whom I completely trusted my safety in more than one risky situation, but also just a good man. He cared about people and about doing the right thing. This world's loss is a major gain for the better place to which I know he has gone.

I'm so very sorry for the loss of Aaron. He was a stand up guy and seemed to love the people in his life with all that he had and it really showed. I enjoyed seeing him quote his wife on a regular basis and the love for his brother was simply,beautiful.. This just breaks my heart. Rest peacefully,Aaron. Again,I'm so very sorry for your loss❤❤

Aaron was an extremely good person. Very though provoking and respectful. I knew him from the days we lived in Chillicothe. i learned that he and i lived not so far apart in the last 10 years and we were never able to connect. This makes me so sad, and teaches me a lesson. Make time!

Aaron was one of a kind and he'll be missed by all who knew him. I had a soft spot for him as a kid and I'm glad I got to see the man he grew to be. He was truly amazing and lived a full life, although it was way too short. Rest easy, AB.

Aaron was one of those rare people who when he became your friend , he lived it and Loved you and made sure you knew it.It could be 2 years or 10 but everytime I would see him he Brightened your world and you knew you were in the presence of someone so real in his joy you always tried to carry some of that in your pocket with you. The Man supported my music , to an immensely undescribable extent and the last time I saw him was at a show in Cinci he pulled some strings to get me booked at..because HE wanted to see me do it and just sat back and smiled that smile. I am having a hard time dealing with the fact I cannot expect the unexpected "there he is" again. I am glad the last thing he heard from me was that music he so championed and that our parting words to each other were "I love you brother."

Aaron was a good friend of my son, they did many mischievous things together, but he was always kind and considerant to my son. The thing that I remember best about Aaron is the time he took me to the hospital to see my son, he was Great and just as concerned as I was. He'd stay with us whenever he was in town.He was a very generous person, he'd take my son golfing almost every time he was in town.I know heaven is even a better place now that Aaron is there.I'm so sorry for your loss Kayla.I love you both for being such good friends with my son. Love Candice
