Abbie Lou Hilderbrand

Abbie Lou Hilderbrand, 60, of Terre Haute, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, in her residence. She was retired from CBS Records and Columbia House. Abbie was born on Aug. 10, 1949, in Terre Haute, to Richard A. Van Allen and Audrey Jane (Trimble) Van Allen.Survivors include her husband, John A. Hilderbrand; three sisters, Kristie Lee Hampton and her husband Rex of Colorado Springs, Susan Jane Eisman of Terre Haute and Zahni Dee Frey of Cleveland; a stepgrandson, Trenton Alexandar Hilderbrand and his parents, John Hilderbrand Jr. and April White; and many beloved nieces and nephews.Abbie graduated from Wiley High School in 1967, and attended Indiana State University and Arizona State. She had been active at Maryland Community Church. She was an avid gardener and was a member and past president (as well as other officer positions) of the Vigo County Master Gardeners Association and a member of the Honey Creek Garden Club. She also was actively involved in the Woman's Department Club, Red Hat Society of Rocky Fork Lake, and Disabled American Veterans Ladies Auxiliary. She had served on the board in various capacities at Club Soda, Inc., and been a member for over 19 years. She was a founder of the Came to Believe group. She was an equestrian rider who had owned, trained and shown Arabian horses. She was a true animal lover. Visitation is Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, from 4 until 8 p.m. in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive. Funeral services are 8 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Vince McFarland officiating. Burial will be Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at 10 a.m. in New Harmony Cemetery for family and close friends. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either American Cancer Society or Club Soda, Inc. 609 S. 4th St., Terre Haute, IN 47807. Envelopes for either will be available at the funeral home.
