Adam Merz Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 6, 2004.
Orem. Adam Meredith Merz, beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, uncle and friend, died December 26, 2003 in an avalanche occurring near Aspen Grove, Utah. He was just 18 years old. Adam was born February 8, 1985 in Layton, Utah to Mona Joy and Martin Meredith Merz. He lived in Kaysville, Pleasant Grove, Ephraim, and Orem, Utah, and Munich, Germany.

He loved life and lived it to its fullest; enjoying rock climbing, hiking, camping, swimming, snowmobiling and especially snowboarding. He participated in playing basketball with his fellow church members and appreciated their friendship and acceptance. He loved digging in his 4Runner up the mountains of Provo Canyon and other areas. He was a loyal friend and brother and would do anything for anyone. His passion for life was a boon to all who enjoyed his company.

He is survived by his parents; his three brothers: Andrew, Micah and Jacob of Orem, Utah; his grandparents, Martin P. and Jane D. Merz of Morgan, Utah; two sisters: Lorrie Pappas and Kristen Johnson, both of Salt Lake City; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Adam will be remembered for his contagious smile and sense of humor. He always had his arm around his family. We love you, Adam, and will miss you so much, and we know you are continuing to accept and love others where you are now. We look forward to being with you again soon!

Adams body has not yet been recovered from the snowy hillside, where he was last seen snowboarding with friends. The family will hold a Memorial Service on Thursday, January 8, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the 400 East 400 North LDS Chapel in Orem. Friends and family are invited to meet with Adams family prior to the service at 11:30 a.m.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for all the Search and Rescue volunteers and members throughout the State of Utah, as they continue to search for Adams and Rod Newberrys bodies since the avalanche. Their dedication and service will forever be appreciated. Anyone who would like to donate to their wonderful work can contact the Sheriffs Department in Provo, Utah.

Interment will be at the South Morgan Cemetery, Morgan, Utah at a later date.
