Adelaide Murray Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 20, 2025.
Adelaide "Del" Murray, 89, of Daytona Beach, FL, formerly of Connecticut and Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on August 2nd, 2025.

Born June 7, 1936, in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late Kennard and Adelaide Rice Woodworth. She was predeceased by her late husband, Francis Murray.

Del is survived by her siblings: Kennard "Peter" Woodworth Jr. of Arizona, and Martha Honeywell of North Carolina; her three children Daniel Troy and wife Laura of Ledyard, CT; Amy Varricchio and husband Frank of Manchester, CT; and Gwen Murray and long-time partner Gavin Adamson of Florida.  She also leaves four grandchildren: Jake Troy, Allison Troy, Elizabeth Jerry, and Ian Jerry, all of Connecticut, as well as three great-grandchildren.

For many years, Del found great joy in her work as a sales clerk, first at Filene's and later Macy's and Lord & Taylor at the Danbury Fair Mall in Connecticut, where she was known for her warmth, quick wit, and unique style. She loved her coworkers and her customers and formed many friendships during her years there, including long-time friend Joyce D'Amura.

A lifelong sports fan, Del especially loved hockey and proudly rooted for the New York Rangers. She enjoyed puzzles and game shows, and enjoyed traveling with her friend Cathy Albanese. She was also a dedicated pin collector and had an eye for fashion, often coordinating her outfits with carefully chosen pieces from her beloved jewelry collection. She will be remembered for her humor, her vibrant spirit, and the way she lit up a room with her smile.

Del selflessly chose to help others by donating her remains for research at the University of Florida. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to a local hospice organization or to a charity of one's choice.
