only now almost 7 years later reading her remarkable words, thanks to Tablet Magazine. The story of her heart and the one 'gifted' to her for far too few years, that story will stay with me for as long as my 80 year old heart gives me. It was beautifully written, and all I have read about the time after and all she accomplished and the love she spread, all that is as fresh and meaningful as it was then. Her family was as blessed to have her as she was to have been simply herself. It was deeply inspiring 'know her' now.

In Adina's presence, one felt the indelible soul of an angel. I knew her during the high school years and will always remember her love of learning, devotion to family and friends, and indomitable spirit. Adina was a precious person to everyone who knew her, and she will live on in our hearts and minds. May the love of God surround and hold you, dear Talve-Goodman family.

Dear Talve-Goodman family,
Our family was shocked and deeply grieved to learn of Adina's death. I remember her with so much fondness from the time we all spent in Jerusalem together in 1995 when you were on sabbatical and I was an HUC student. I clearly remember Adina's feisty and fun-loving spirit, I remember Jim carrying her when she was tired, and I remember how determined she always was to keep up with the other kids. I watched the funeral - thank you for making that possible - and cried with you through that extraordinary tribute to Adina which only your family could have done. I don't know how you were able, but perhaps it was helpful. Thinking of you with love. Kim Geringer, Colin Dunn, Rachel and Adam

Rabbi Goodman and Rabbi Talve,

I am so sorry to hear about Adinas passing. I will never forget your compassion for me and my family when I was having open heart surgery at age 13 and you were at Childrens Hospital dealing with medical issues after Adinas birth. You played the guitar at my bedside. Many years later you would come to Childrens again to pray over my son Benjamins bedside as he dealt with CHD. You helped us through the toughest time in my life as our son passed away and you helped us through that tragic time to somehow see love and give us hope. I will never forget that and I am so sorry that you are going through this now. Adina was an inspiration to so many and her legacy will give many children and parents of children with CHD hope. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time and I truly hope you know how many people care about you and your family.

Dear Rabbi James and Rabbi Susan,
We cannot find the words to express the sense of loss my family feels at the passing of Adina.
My son, Mark, knew her through mutual friends; we learned of the challenges she faced and felt as though we knew her through her writings. And while her writings dealt with her health issues matter-of-factly, grace, faith and optimism were the main things we took from them.
We pray that you may find some comfort in knowing the life which she packed into her years.

Baruch Dayan Emet.

Let us pray to God for Rachamim Merubim.

Adina's life was a miracle. Adina's heart transplant was a miracle. In her short years in our human minds, Adina experienced the joy of life and understood the meaning of suffering. Few among us reach these spiritual heights at any age.

Adina was indeed the "man in the electric wheelchair" in her prize-winning short story, who stirred her soul to recall the life of another man in an electric wheelchair, a Benedictine Abbot who God sent to her to help her accept the gift of the nearly identical years of extended life that had been given to him. This gift, for which we are deeply grateful, enabled Adina to reach spiritual closure as she was given so much unconditional
love by her family and especially Susan and Jim, her spiritual role models, who deserve our praise along with the physically and spiritually courageous, Adina Chaya. Her holy soul will now join
others in the World to Come in an eternal life of spiritual bliss.

Let us pray that God gazes at Adina's soul, that we learn from Adina's life, that we repent and turn to God, as we mourn over our loss and comfort her bereaved family. Let us pray that we will merit God's Mercy to allow us to be with Adina's soul in the fullness of time.

Life is fleeting and few have the ability in this world, as did Adina, to fight the indifferent evil that exists in Nature, and come so close to God (Devekut) in her meaningful suffering.

Rachel Mevakeh Al Banehah.

B'Yedidut Chamah V'Ahava,

Shalom,
