Alan Huntley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 3, 2018.
Alan E. Huntley, 74, of South Otselic, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at his home.
Alan was born in Norwich on August 26, 1943 the son of Earl and Doris (Jordan) Huntley. Nearly all of Alan's life was spent on the Huntley farm. He was the fourth generation of Huntley men to operate the farm and with his son, Robert, ran a successful business.
Alan joined the United States Air Force in 1962 and was stationed at Randolph Air Force Base in Texas and served two years in Germany. He was an Airman First Class E-4 Aircraft Mechanics. After five years of service to his country he returned home and eventually assumed ownership of the family farm where he spent the rest of his life.
On August 26, 1977 he was united in marriage with Peggy Shuman of Beaver Meadow. For the next 40 years they worked side by side operating their farm. Alan's love of aircraft carried over into his civilian life which led him to purchase an Ultralight which he enjoyed for many years. One of his favorite things was to fly with his good friend, Duane Ross. He also enjoyed his monthly meetings with other Ultralight owners.
Deer hunting with his nephews and other relatives was a great enjoyment to him and with some help, he was able to go out one last time last fall. Although his health was failing Alan attended several basketball games at OVCS, where his grandson Bobby played and his granddaughter Katie was a cheerleader.
Alan is survived by his wife of 40 years, Peggy Shuman Huntley, sons Neil and Robert (Tasha), daughters Laura and Lisa (Lauren), grandchildren include Kordell, Garyn, Airelle, Aidan, Elijah, Katlin, Robert, Andrew, Christopher, Gabriel, Ivy, Derek and Logan.
Alan also leaves to mourn his passing brothers Arnold (Kay) Huntley and Jerry Graves, sisters Susie (Bob) Casse and Lori (Grant) Preston. Many nieces, nephews as well as friends too numerous to mention.
Words cannot express my gratitude to Susie, Arnie, Lori, and their spouses for their loving support, never leaving Alan's side. God Bless each of you.
Thank You to all the friends who have been so faithful in their visiting and expressions of caring.
A special thank you to Needia and Hospice for their care and support and the Syracuse VA Hospital.
A service for Alan will be held on Tuesday, May 8, at 3:00 pm from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeremy Stopford will officiate. Interment with military rites will follow in the Valley View Cemetery of South Otselic. Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 1-3 pm.
