Alan RICHARDS Obituary
November 1, 1953 - July 14, 2013
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Alan, beloved husband, father, brother and friend, on July 14, 2013, at the age of 59 while hiking at Mt. Yamnuska. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of thirty-one years, Lisa; his children Trevor and Carla; and his sister Alice. He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Mary Richards. Born in Lethbridge, AB, he was an avid golfer, curler and skier. Alan was a long- standing member of Cottonwood Golf Club. He loved the camaraderie and he loved the game. He was pretty good at it too – his golf career was highlighted with a hole-in-one on No. 6 last year. He was a member of the Maverick Curling League at the Calgary Curling Club as well as at the Garrison Curling Club, winning his fair share of bonspiels. Alan was well-known and well-respected in the tightly knit geophysical community, where he worked for more than thirty years. A Celebration of Alan's Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Alan Richards, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.

It has been a long time since I was in Houston with you and Alan, but I have never forgotten that all too brief adventure. Not a great success, but certainly a learning experience for all of us. I just stumbled upon the notice of Alan's death, and I am very sorry for your loss. Knowing that you will cherish your long life together with him, I can only wish you all possible happiness in the future.

My sincere condolences on your loss. As you may know, Alan and his mother, as dear friends of our family, were asked to be my God-parents. It has been a number of years since my last visit with Alan. It likely took place during one of our many Thanksgiving dinner trips to Coleman. Alan likely helped me put together the puzzle that usually sat on the mantle or set up a game of pool. I was shocked to hear the news and am so sorry for your loss. I truly feel honoured to have known Al, witnessed his hole in one, and was able to play with him, and enjoy his kind and gentle spirit on his last round at Cottonwood the night prior to the flood. He will be missed by so many!
