Albert Bartak Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 6 to Mar. 8, 2009.
Bartak, Albert
89, of Phoenix, passed away on February 28, 2009. With family at his bedside, he departed this world on the 61st anniversary of his marriage to his beloved deceased wife, Ruth. Al was born on September 8, 1919, in Chicago to Joseph and Anna Bartak. He worked on the Manhattan Project during WWII to develop the atom bomb, then married in 1948 and changed careers. He and Ruth moved their young children to Phoenix in 1959 for Al's health. For the next 30 years, they operated real estate investment businesses and Al-Bar Draperies & Carpets. Al loved time with family, floating in the pool, Snickers bars, deli food and playing checkers or Rummikub. He delayed full retirement, but in his 80's lived happily in assisted-living, enjoying the company of dear friends at the dining table, card table and movies. He was affectionately known as "King Al" and brightened the day for everyone. He was friendly and nice, always ready to tell a story or lend advice. He was a member of Temple Chai and B'nai B'rith. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth and all siblings. He is survived by his children Joel, Bonnie Bartak (Richard), and Linda Schotz (Jeff), all of Phoenix; and Diana Lipkus (Alan) of Ohio. Also survived by grandchildren, Kristen Kolman (John); and Rebecca, Bryce and Chase Schotz; and twins Annaleah and Lauren Lipkus; and brother-in-law, Morris Glaberson and sister-in-law, Florence Bofman. Services have been held. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary.

Al you were an inspiration to many. I don't think there was a time when I didn't see you with that beautiful warm smile. You were a true reflection of a good life. A man who loved his family, a man who welcomed all, an example of a husband and a father who put family first and invited whoever wished to come into your life. I will think of you often and I want you to know that you will live on in my heart.
Sprinkle a little heaven over us and help keep us all safe here on earth. God needs a little help in these triumph times and there's no better man than you for him to partner with. You'll be missed on earth, but a reunion awaits us and the party must go on. In loving memory....

Al Bartak you were like a grandpa to me since both my grandpa's passed away before I was ever born. Thanks for all your advice and teaching me things to know over the years. I hope God blesses you in heaven for all you did for me and everyone ! You were like an angel to me. We were not relatives but I felt like you were a grandpa ! I will be glad one day to see you again in heaven where you will not have anymore health problems again! I praise God I got to know you Al Bartak ! Your Friend - Curtis Bray

We were fortunate to have been able to attend your funeral and have some candy in your honor. I think that your old Kaiser is in heaven waiting for you to start it up and drive it to Marie and Nisson's farm.

Dear Bartak Family:
I am so sorry that I cannot be there in Phoenix to pay condolences and respect to my dear Uncle Al. What a wonderful man he was. He was an example to all of us all through the years. We could always count on a smile and a hug and intelligent conversation.

Love,

Myra G. Barnett (proud to have been his neice)
