Albert Egizi Obituary
Springfield, IL—Albert T. Egizi, 93, of Springfield, died at 10:05 am, Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at St. John's Hospital. He was born June 2, 1924 in Springfield, to Ottavio and Adelina Louise Egizi. He married Shirley Homer on September 18, 1948 and she survives.
Also surviving are four children, Michael (Patricia) Egizi of St. Louis, Daniel Egizi of Springfield, Kathryn (Thomas) Zanoni of Glenview and Andrew (Mary Young) Egizi of Springfield; six grandchildren, Tony (Carrie) Egizi, Nicholas Cranwill, Laura (Stephen) Vierneisel, Anthony Zanoni, Matthew (Robin) Zanoni and Steven Zanoni; eleven great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Patrick Egizi and three sisters, Sue Gleason, Theresa Woods, and Olga Kellus.
Albert was a US Army Air Corps veteran serving with the 99th Bomb Group during WWII. He retired from Fiat-Allis and the Illinois Department of Corrections. Albert was a resident of Springfield for all of his life and a member of St. Patrick's Church.
Visitation: 4-7 pm, Monday, October 9, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 11 am Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield with Reverend Braden Maher officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
