Alex Garrido Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 15, 2025.
Alejandro "Alex" Garrido, beloved dad, husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend, left us peacefully on June 10, 2025, surrounded by his adoring family.

Everyone wanted to be around Alex. His quiet kindness, steadfastness, and sense of humor brought joy to all he met. He was always ready with a little joke, a chuckle, or a poke of sarcasm often when you least expected it, at the most serious-seeming moments. He had an unwavering ability to make his family and friends feel special, protected, and loved.

Alex was a creative soul who loved and played music throughout his life, including playing guitar and drums and singing in musical endeavors with his best friends, including the bands Sidewalk Driver, Board, One Small Voice, and snuB, along with many solo projects where he would play all instruments and perform all vocals. A prolific songwriter, he had a way of marrying side-splitting humor with profound commentary on love and life. He was truly the life of the party, where he would lead sing-alongs as part of the duo Ben and Jerry, during which friends would shout out song requests for hours on end. No song was too ambitious or silly to attempt.

Sports was another of the great loves of Alex's life. He loved watching anyone competing at anything, and if given the chance, he'd watch whatever sport was on television, whether it was football, soccer, golf, curling, or cricket. In every city he lived, from Miami to Boston to Los Angeles to Baltimore to Chicago, he donned the gear of the local baseball and hockey teams. As a life-long New York Yankees fan, however, he drew the line at wearing any symbol of the Boston Red Sox.

Alex and his beloved wife Rita eventually made a home by the sea in Fairhaven, MA, where they found family in the local hockey community, and he embraced his dream of being a proud hockey dad to his cherished son Adrian. Nothing gave Alex more joy than watching Adrian on the ice at countless practices, games, and weekend tournaments with the Southcoast Panthers and the Northeast Generals. Being a dad was the single thing Alex wanted most in life.

Alex was known to his childhood friends as Gumball, a silly kids' nickname that followed him for life. It stuck because it fit him perfectly: Bright, roly-poly, delightful, and sweet. Whether a conscious choice or not, he accepted the adult compromise to be called "GB," always ready to keep a joke going.

In addition to being devoted dad to Adrian, husband to Rita, and doggy dad to Ziggy, he is son of the late Hector and Marina Garrido of The Villages, FL. He is brother to Yvonne Figueroa of Guadalupita, NM, Mario Figueroa of New Brunswick, NJ, and Kenny Garrido of St. Augustine, FL. He is uncle/godfather to Micel Enriquez of Atlanta, GA, and uncle to Derek Enriquez of Guadalupita, NM. He is also uncle to many more loving nieces and nephews from the Garrido and Anelli families. He is son in law to Marie and the late Anacleto Anelli of Mt. Cobb, PA. He is a member of the Family of St. Anthony in the Saint Ubaldo Society of Jessup, PA.

Alex's life will be celebrated on Tuesday June 17 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph's Parish, 74 Spring Street, Fairhaven, MA. A memorial gathering will take place on Wednesday June 25 from 2:00-5:00 PM at Nasketucket Bay Vineyard, 237 New Boston Road, Fairhaven, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the family's home in Adrian's name for his educational fund.

The family would like to thank the providers and staff who cared for Alex, especially those at Saint Anne's Cancer Center in Dartmouth, MA.

Alex will be forever in our hearts.

I had the pleasure of working with Alex for about 5 years. He and I often talked baseball in between doing our actual work. I often joked with him about being "the (insert famous sports star) of Project Management." I know he was a Yankees guy and I am a big Red Sox fan but he still was happy for me, even when the Sox won! He was such a calm and endearing presence, even under pressure at work. Colleagues and I knew he never panicked and was able to manage multiple projects like an absolute champ. I was devastated to learn of his death and he meant so much to me even after I left Limelight Insights. He was one of the most genuine, kind and funny people I have ever met. He was an excellent, hardworking Project Manager and great Father. He really made the world a better place and he will be truly missed. Thank you Alex for being who you are and every time I turn on a baseball game I will think of you.

Alex was without a doubt the best human I ever had the pleasure of knowing. Those early morning talks at the rink or just sitting by the table laughing with him I´ll always cherish. His laughter and smile was infectious. He will be greatly missed. Rita, Adrian and ziggy we´ll always be here for you three. My heart breaks for you all my thoughts and prayers have been, and will be with you. We love you guys!

I´ll always remember Alex with long hair, wearing his heavy metal gear, and ripping on the drums back in middle school. Talented, hysterically funny and kind. He once took a go-cart airborn over the curb and into the grass at the Race o Rama track, defying physics. My condolences. May he rest in peace.

Dearest Rita and Adrian, this is my favorite picture of you and Alex. The happiness on both of your faces is a true reflection of the love you had for one another I especially like it because my father is looking over his right shoulder towards the both of you and his smile reflects just how happy he was and how much he loved you both. Please know that I´m so very sorry for your loss and I will continue to pray for you and Adrian and both families. God bless you, Rita and Adrian.

Aunt Rita & Adrian,

We are so sorry for your loss. We will always remember uncle Alex at loud family gatherings, always the calm among the chaos. A great listener, and always down to talk about sports. We will always cherish our visit with you all to Chicago, going to the Ukrainian festival and getting deep dish pizza together. Big hugs to all. We love you guys.

Love,
Kayla, Tyler & Siena

Rita, Adrian and family,

We are so very sorry for your loss. We are blessed to have known Alex. When he would be at games, I seemed to always ask him silly hockey rules questions, to which he would always explain well for me lol

We are sending you all love and strength during this time.
