Alexander (Alex) Estelita Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 7, 2023.
Alex was very proud to say the theme song for his life was the Rod Stewart tune "Some Guys Have All the Luck." He really felt he was the luckiest guy in the world with his big loving family, many friends, 2 beautiful homes and his precious dog Fiona.

Alex was born July 29th, 1951 to Alexander and Aurora Estelita and grew up in a bustling household with his 7 siblings in San Bruno. He was the 5th of 8 children, and he was heavily influenced by his parents' strong work ethic and family values. He spent his early years attending St. Robert's Catholic School class of 1966 and attended Crestmoor High School where he graduated in the class of 1970.

He loved to tell tales of life growing up with his many siblings and kept us up to date on their growing families. He is preceded in death by his brother Thomas Estelita (Billie) and sister Madeline Mathiesen (Dan - deceased). He is survived by sisters Trudy Kazakoff (Larry - deceased) Fernandez (Ron - deceased), Dee-Dee Rubino (Nick), Lorraine Greenberg (Bob - deceased), Carmen Mayo (John) and his brother James (Trish).

After high school Alex joined the United States Air Force where he served for 4 years. He was stationed at Hahn Air Force Base in Germany during the Vietnam War and was trained and worked in supply management. He told many stories of his time in the service which made a lasting impression on his life. For his final year of service, he was transferred to Big Spring, Texas where he married his high school sweetheart Deborah Berliner. After completing his 4-year commitment Alex and Debbie returned to San Bruno and started their family. They had 3 sons whom he was immensely proud of. Philip (Mark), Joey (Beth) and Daniel (Brittany). He raised his children in San Bruno and worked to support them for many years as a superintendent for Kazakoff Painting and later worked for the City of San Francisco.

Alex remained in San Bruno until the mid-90's when his life made several dramatic turns. He was reunited with his son David LeBoy whom we all welcomed to the family. Then he met the love of his life, Pat Lyman (deceased 2021). They married in 2000 and he proudly became stepfather to Pat's 3 children Lori Driscoll (Shaun), Kris Gonzales (Dave) and Justin Lyman (Marnie). They resided in her childhood home on Gibbs Way in the El Rancho neighborhood of South San Francisco where he became a treasured friend and neighbor to the close-knit community.

He was endlessly proud of his 7 children and as their families grew, he fell into the best years of his life as a father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved to teach the grandkids new things, play with tools, games, watch movies, he taught them how to earn money and invest it and basically, he spoiled each of them in their own way. We know he has made a lasting impression teaching them life skills that they will always cherish. His beloved 10 grandchildren Brianna Bolanos (Billy), Michael Gonzales, Ryan & Ashley Driscoll, Keira, Sadie & Jared Lyman, Jacob Helderman, Evan & Luke Estelita & 3 Great Grandchildren, RJ Stargen, Mila & Sofia Bolanos and God Daughter Emily Rubino will miss him dearly.

Alex loved to travel with Pat and some of their favorite memories were cruises to Alaska and Hawaii, a trip to Graceland, many trips to Las Vegas with gambling, shows and he loved all the entertainment. We will cherish the memories of recent adventures with the family to Disneyland, Reno, and Hawaii. He rarely missed a new movie at the theater and loved to watch his favorite teams the San Francisco Giants and the 49ers.

Alex lived a full and vibrant life up to his untimely death. He was the life of the party with his humor, wit, and wisdom that he generously shared with all who knew him. He was deeply loyal to his family and loved to support all activities for his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren attending games, family parties, fundraisers, and all celebrations in their lives. He was one of a kind and the favorite uncle to numerous nieces and nephews and a dear cousin, friend and neighbor and he will be greatly missed. We find comfort knowing he is reunited with Pat, the love of his life.

Please join us for a celebration of Alex's life on Saturday September 16th 11 O'clock at Par3 at Poplar Creek in San Mateo. Alex was very patriotic and the theme for his Celebration of Life will be red, white, and blue and Hawaiian attire. We hope you can join us.

We are long time neighbors of Pat and Alex. My fondest memory of Alex and Pat too of course, was when our eldest daughter was having Homecoming preparations at our house. Every inch of our driveway, lawn and even the street were taken up by sets and props. I was a bit nervous that the neighbors would be upset but I was wrong. Alex turned on their outside lights so the kids could rehearse their dance routines and skits in his driveway. Alex & Pat were so supportive. We will miss Alex dearly but happy he and Pat will be back together.

My first memory of Alex was way back when we called him Sandy. I used to hang at their house as a child. Like they didn't have enough kids already! That would have been about 1957. His sister Maddy and I were best friends in early grade school. Little did I know way back then that they were cousins to my husband Mike Romo.
