Alexander James DeMuth

Alexander James DeMuth died unexpectedly in his New Orleans home on October 10th, 2016, at the age of 30. A lifelong New Orleans loyalist, he graduated from De La Salle High School in 2003 and was preparing to begin his first semester at the University of New Orleans when the city was flooded in 2005. It was a point of pride that he was among the first citizens to resettle and help rebuild his community, despite the many hardships of those early months. He ultimately resumed his studies, completing a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2012. A great lover of music, Alex worked throughout his college years at the Foundation Room at the House of Blues, where he was much beloved by co-workers and clientele alike. Recently he began fulfilling his dream to work in the sciences by obtaining a position as a Chemical Laboratory Analyst. Alex is survived by his mother, Laura DeMuth-Anderson, and his step-father, Martin Anderson. He is survived also by his grandparents, Larry and Mary DeMuth; his aunts and uncles John and Bobbi DeMuth, Doug DeMuth and Pilar Gómez-Ibañez, and Jeff and Becky DeMuth; and cousins Sarah Miller, Steven DeMuth, Ellie DeMuth and Adam DeMuth. Alex's birth father, Cary Wernsman, pre-deceased him in 2010. Surviving Wernsman family includes uncles and aunts Edward Wernsman, Gwendolyn Seipel, Troy Wernsman, Angelee Love and several cousins. A memorial wake for Alex's many New Orleans friends will be held at the Foundation Room 225 Decatur Street, New Orleans LA on October 23 from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. A private family memorial service will be held in Wisconsin the same weekend. Should friends desire, contributions in Alex's name may be sent to the Louisiana SPCA at 1700 Mardi Gras BLVD.
