I remember Alfred, the father of my dear friend Paula, in Vancouver, where he was visiting us for a spell. I think the word that describes him best, to my memory is indefatigable. And absolutely charming in his vast repertoire of knowlege. I know he will be missed very very much.

I extend my deepest sympathies to all the Pick family.
I first met Alfred while I was still in Law School at McGill when he was there on a recruiting drive - which was successful in convincing me that I should follow through with my earlier intention to join External Affairs.
Subsequently, over the years, I was with him at many UNGA’s – he did 5th. Committee and I did 6th. Starting in the Spring of 1970 I was his number two for almost three years in The Hague – though he was away so often at the UN and later the OAS that I ended up acting as Chargé almost half the time! During that period Alfred introduced me to Volleyball - he used to set up teams, selected from the residence staff, his family and Canadians posted under him, to play pickup games on a rough court on the lawn near the tennis courts! They were fun but I didn't keep it up later!
At all times he was kind, generous and intellectually curious and I felt lucky to have continued meeting with him up until only two weeks ago.

We are so sorry to hear that Alfred passed away this week. We are out of the country, but still the word reached us. We have so many happy memories of Alfred at the cottage on Bob's Lake. We will miss him greatly. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time.
