Alfred Martin Weiss

Born: March 14, 1937, Brooklyn, NY

Died: August 31, 2024, West Caldwell, NJ

Alfred "Al" Weiss was a man of warmth, humor, intellect, and modesty. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Al's life was marked by his dedication to education, his peers, and his family.

Al graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and went on to teach and then to serve as a high school guidance counselor in Brooklyn for many years. His commitment to his students and colleagues was evident through his active involvement in the Teachers Union, where he served as a Representative and Chapter Chairman. Al's passion for education led him to work full-time for the United Federation of Teachers (UFT), where he played a pivotal role in launching the Peer Intervention Program.

Al served his country as an Army reservist before being recalled to active duty for an additional year.

Al leaves behind his beloved partner, Barbara Meranus, and her family: Stacy, Isaac, and Abby Mansoura, and Dana Meranus. He was a loving father to Jeffrey and Gary Weiss and a grandfather to Matthew, Jared, and Kyle.

A lifelong New York Giants fan, Al's enthusiasm for the team was well-known among his friends and family.

A graveside service will be held on September 4, 2024, at Cedar Park & Beth El Cemeteries in Paramus, NJ, at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alpine Learning Group in Paramus, NJ, specifying the Adult Program.

Al's legacy of kindness and humor will be cherished by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
