Alice Lover Dee Neal Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 28, 2016.
Alice Lover Dee Lemoine Neal, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at the age of 89. She only spoke French as a child and was very proud of her French heritage. She enjoyed cooking and serving her family the traditional Cajun dishes. She eventually became fluent in Spanish while living in Columbia, S. America. Her family was her pride and joy and she had a loving and guiding heart. She was a devoted Catholic and a member of the Ladies Auxillary of the Knights of Columbus Council 2807. She volunteered in many capacities at St. Patrick Catholic Church. An endowment was created and called the Alice and Ernest Neal Endowed Professorship in Geology at LSU. She worked at Sears for many years, loving every moment of it. Alice is survived by her children, Peggy Sharkey and her husband, Bill, Ron Neal and his wife, Mary, Grace Frantz and her husband, Dean; grandchildren, Kiki, Kimmy, and Kelly Sharkey, Meagan Mosher and her husband, James, Katie Register and her husband, Jay, David Neal, Gabrielle and Jordan Frantz; great-grandchildren, Kade Sharkey, Kaelyn Bourgeois, Kelsey Albert, Jordan Sharkey, and Charlotte Register; brother, Patrick Lemoine; sisters, Doris King and Aline Carnevale; and her devoted cousin, Myrna Edwards. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Ernest Eugene Neal; her parents, Rushin and Eunice Lemoine; and brother, Jules Lemoine. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Sunday, July 31, 2016 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Monday, August 1, 2016 from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow on the grounds of Greenoaks Memorial Park. Her family is grateful to the Lake Sherwood Retirement Community, Alice's Angels and caregivers: Ruby Scallan, Christina Griffin, Amy Adams, Ms. Emma, Liz Jarrell, and Betty Alex. We will miss her terribly, but we celebrate her reunion with those that have gone before her to be with our Heavenly Father.

We met Alice and Ernie on a trip with OLOM parishioners to Ireland in 1996. Since then we were blessed by their friendship as we were also members of St Patrick Church. Lately, we enjoyed meeting Alice over coffee after Tuesday Masses there. We hope and pray that the following prayer helps all who are now saddened by Alice's passing:

Comfort for Those Who Mourn

So many people imagine that death cruelly separates us from our loved ones. Even pious people are led to believe this great and sad mistake. When our loved ones die, they do not leave us. They remain. They do not go to some dark and distant place. They simply begin their eternity. We do not see them because we are still in the darkness of the world. But their spiritual eyes, filled with the light of heaven, are always watching us as they wait for the day when we shall share their perfect joy. We are all born for heaven and one by one we end this life of tears to begin our life of love in endless happiness.

I have often reflected upon this beautiful truth and found it the greatest and surest comfort in time of mourning. A firm faith in the real and continual presence of our loved ones has brought the conviction and consolation that death has not destroyed them, nor carried them away. Rather it has given them life! A life with power to know fully and to love perfectly! With this new life and new power our loved ones are always present to us, knowing and loving us more than ever before.

The tears that dampen eyes in time of mourning are tears of homesickness, tears of longing for our loved ones. But it is we who are away from home, not they. Death has been for them a doorway to an eternal home. And only because this heavenly home is invisible to our worldly eyes, we cannot see them so near us. Yet, they are with us, lovingly and tenderly waiting for the day when we, too, will enter the doorway of our eternal home.

No death is a separation. It is a preparation for eternal union with those we love, in the peace and joy of heaven.

Our hearts go out to you and your family. Your mom was one of the stabilizing people of our neighborhood. Later in life I ran into her and Grace at the movies and grocery store along Coursey Blvd. She was a young 78ish and full of life. Please accept our sincere condolences for your loss.
