Alice Neuhauser Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 19, 2025.
Alice Ellen "Mimi" Neuhauser, a remarkable woman of resilience and determination, passed away on December 27, 2024, in Tucson, Arizona, at the age of 98.

Born on November 11, 1926, in Crabtree, North Carolina, Alice grew up on her family's farm before embarking on a journey that would define her strength and independence. In 1943, she left home to contribute to the war effort in Washington, D.C., where she worked at the Veterans Administration researching records of lost and missing servicemen. This early experience instilled in her a deep sense of responsibility and perseverance that would guide her throughout her life.

After the war, Alice married Roy Lyman Neuhauser and together they built a family, raising eight children. Tragically widowed in 1965, she faced the immense challenge of supporting her family alone. Drawing upon the skills she had developed during the war, she managed various medical clinics in Tucson, Arizona. Her unwavering dedication ensured that all of her children had the opportunity to attend college-a commitment recognized when she was honored for having the most children enrolled at the University of Arizona for two consecutive years. She continued to provide encouragement and support until each of them became independent.

Once her children were grown, Alice explored new ventures in retail sales and real estate before retiring in 1994. She later moved to Waynesville, North Carolina, before returning to Arizona in 2017.

Alice was known for her strong work ethic and expected those around her to share that same dedication. A positive thinker with an independent spirit and a sharp sense of humor, she had a natural ability to connect with people. Her presence commanded respect from those she met, and many sought her advice on life's challenges. She was deeply loved as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Beyond her professional achievements and devotion to family, Alice had an eye for home decoration and interior design. She took pride in maintaining her appearance and valued staying active as much as her health allowed. A savvy bargain shopper who understood the worth of things, she approached life with both practicality and charm. She was also a proud member of the Daughters of American Colonists and traced her genealogy back to George Washington's sister-an aspect of her heritage that brought her great pride.

Alice is survived by her children Erika Smith, Lettie MacLachlan, Lorelei Harnisch, Fritz Neuhauser, and Roy Neuhauser. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Lyman Neuhauser; daughters Sieglinde Neuhauser, Astrid Neuhauser, and Karla Mahlberg; as well as other beloved family members who passed before her.

Alice's legacy is one of resilience, love, and unwavering determination-a testament to a life well lived. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and cherished her.
