Alicia Hollins Obituary
Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 8, 2024.
With deep sadness, we announce Miss Alicia Hollins's homecoming (friends nicknamed her "Ali"). Two days after celebrating the 50th year Frederick Douglass High School class reunion party, Alicia was killed on Monday, August 19, 2024, in her Carroll Heights home.
Alicia, born on January 15, 1956, was the fourth and youngest daughter of Allene and Robinson Hollins. She grew up in the Edgewood and Collier Heights neighborhoods and attended Wesley Avenue and Collier Heights Elementary, Harper, and Douglass High Schools. She received honor diplomas from Gwinnett, Piedmont, and Atlanta Technical Colleges.
She overcame challenges such as childhood obesity, chronic asthma, dyslexia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and self-learned fabric design, tailoring, hair styling, and gardening.
Alicia was a devoted mother to her only child, Allen Robinson Wilson, who graduated from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts-Atlanta and worked as a professional chef.
Although baptized at six years old in The Greater Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church, she enjoyed a Rastafarian lifestyle for many years as an adult. She recommitted herself to Christ shortly before passing, a testament to her deep faith, and attended the Grace Fellowship church.
Despite enduring decades of personal adversities, Alicia's resilience was a beacon of hope. After the pandemic ended, she worked from home as a Customer Scheduling Specialist for Aspen Dental Management, Inc.
Alicia's life was a rich tapestry of diverse interests and talents, intriguing all who knew her. She had a passion for outdoor gardening and indoor potted plants, designing Macrame hangings, sewing fashion clothes, creating home furnishings, completing picture puzzles, rescuing dogs and cats, listening to Reggae, Heavy Metal and Jazz music, playing board and card games, attending live concerts or comedy clubs, viewing comedy, horror films, and cartoons. She loved going on adventure, gambling, and resort travel vacations. She could make from scratch or repair almost anything effortlessly. She frequently canned her homegrown vegetables.
She is survived by Allen Robinson Wilson, Millicent Patreece Hollins, Sandra Freeman Harden and family, Stanley Douglas Freeman and family, Ms. Michelle White and family, and many members of the Fletcher Dutch Freeman, Anna Terrell Freeman, and Emma Winder households.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sanders and Mattie Freeman, Willie Lou White, Willie E White, Addie Ruth Freeman, DeWitt and Leslie Bell Freeman, and Ruby Lee Freeman Stephens.
