Amen Wardy

January 15, 1940 - February 18, 2021 With profound sadness, the Wardy family announces the death of our patriarch, Amen Wardy, on February 18, 2021; he died peacefully in his sleep. In a more than half-acentury career, Amen was a legendary retailer seeming to have an enchanted X-Ray vision, seeing trends far ahead of their time.Amen had a long and wonderful life. He was one of America's most significant retailers, and his effortless success was due in part to his passion and enthusiasm; he often said he had an angel on his shoulder. Amen started his career in 1954 and made his mark on the world of exclusive women's fashion with glittering boutiques in Texas, Beverly Hills, and Newport Beach, CA, dressing royalty, socialites, and celebrities. In the 90's Amen Wardy expanded his affinity for luxury retailing into home furnishings, gourmet and gift boutiques in Aspen, Dallas, Las Vegas, Boston, Scottsdale, Palm Beach, Palm Desert, and Santa Fe. Today his legacy lives on with a shop bearing his name in Aspen, CO.Those of us lucky enough to be along for the ride knew he was "magic with a heartbeat". His sense of humor was legendary. It was as if his laughter came from within and being around Amen for a few minutes was enough to transport you into unrestrained hysterical happiness. His bigger-than-life personality and childlike, infectious enthusiasm played out daily as he handed out candy at his store to anyone lucky enough to go into his once-ina-lifetime treasure. Amen is survived by his lifelong partner and spouse of 45 years, Bob Hightower, sister Joann Wardy, former wife Lorraine Aboumrad Wardy. His daughter Soffia Wardy (Pepper Weinglass), sons Amen Wardy III (Traci Tolman), and Jean Paul Wardy (Marianna Defterios). Grandchildren Amen Wardy IV, Gianna Rose Wardy, Kingston Wardy, Athena Wardy, Jean Paul Wardy II, devoted friend Esperanza Martinez, and his four-legged children Safari, Fancy, and Cataleya.
