Andre Horn

Las Vegas Andre , Nev. - Horn It is with a great deal of sadness that his friends and partners at Needham & Company share the news of the passing of Andre R. Horn, who died peacefully in January at age 94 after a brief Illness.

Andre led an amazing life. He was born in Paris in 1928. Andre served in French Army after World War II. Upon completion of his military service, he earned his BA in Mathematics at the University of Paris and completed his graduate studies at L'?cole des Hautes ?tudes Commerciales.

Andre began his business career in public accounting. He later joined Joy Manufacturing in France, where Andre started a long, successful climb up the corporate ladder before moving to Pittsburgh in the 1960s. By the early 1970s, he had become Joy's CFO and later served as EVP. Andre was elected Chairman of the Board of Joy in the late 1970s, a position that he held until his "retirement" in 1985.

From his base in San Diego, Andre embarked on a second career as a mentor and board audit specialist. As an expert on both Jay Forrester's work with industrial business cycles and the importance of financial oversight by corporate boards, Andre was much in demand. In short order, he became the Founding Chairman of Needham & Company and the audit chairs of Western Digital Corporation and Varco International. When he became Chairman Emeritus of Needham, he joined Remec, Inc. as its audit chair and later Chairman. He later served as Chairman of Southwall Technologies.

Many years ago, Andre was blessed to meet his soulmate, Teri Foretay-Horn. Teri and golf were Andre's true loves. We extend our condolences to Teri and her family. He will be greatly missed by all.
