Andre Joyal Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 22, 2011.
JOYAL, Andre C. M.D., F.R.C.P.C. Dr. Andre Joyal died suddenly in his 78th year on January 12, 2011 in Ottawa. He is survived by and will be dearly missed by his cherished wife Therese Azzaria, his children Susan, Richard (Nancy), and Kathleen (John); his grandchildren Madeleine, David, Michelle, and Natalie; and his brothers Robert (late Claire Lamontagne), Bernard (Claire Couture), and Pierre (late Violette St-Onge). He is predeceased by his first wife Patricia Connors (1987), his son Andy (1988) and his sister Lise (late Raymond Desaulnier) (2011). A well respected and retired anesthetist, a mentor to many, he will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour and storytelling. He was extremely thoughtful and cared gently for everyone he knew. He was an avid reader who enjoyed history, travel, and music. A funeral mass will be held on January 31st at 11 a.m. at Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Parish, 20 Grant St. in Ottawa. Friends and relatives will be received from 10 a.m. at the church prior to the mass. Following the mass, friends and family are invited to join us for a lunch in celebration of Andre's life. A private burial of his ashes will take place at a later date in Montreal. In keeping with Andre's passion and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.

Dear Terry,

I am so sorry for your loss. You had one of the good ones.
Oh, how I wish I had taken the time to try to make contact last summer when I was in Montreal. If I only had your email. The crew of the Planxty and MacPlanxty still meets every year and we talk about you and miss you.
Maybe now we will see you next yoar. Till then,
Love,

Dear Terri, John and I were both so shocked too hear last week of Andre's sudden death ..What a shock. Our sympathies too you and all the family. We hve always enjoyed Andre as a neighbour, he could not have been better, as a person, I always enjoyed him for his dry sense of humour and his easy mannerisms. We are still in Florida till the beginning of April, but hope we will see you when we are back. Affectionately, Lizabeth @John Fripp

My sincere condolences to Therese and the family. I did not have the honour of knowing Andre, but his wife spoke of him so lovingly that I can appreciate what a loss he is to his loved ones.

We have enjoyed our association with Andre as neighbors in the Islandview condo where we all came to live more than twenty years ago. We extend our deep sympathy to Mme Joyal and family on this sudden loss. Whether as a fellow member of the Board of Directors, or enjoying an Islandview party or just sharing our reading preferences, It was Andre's sense of humour and sense of responsibility that left the strongest impression.

I was honoured to have work with Andre at the Grace Hospital from the late 80,s till it closed in 1999. He was a true gem and great Doctor. He had a wonderful sense of humour and always had a twinkle in his eye.
I was very ahppy to have a visit with him at my retirement dinner in November with many other of his collegues.
My thougts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
