Andrea McIntyre Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 20, 2022.
Andrea Theresa Twigg was born on August 7th, 1949, to Lynn and Maria Catherine (Andrea) Twigg in New Amsterdam, Ny. Andrea grew up in a traditional family, living in Milford and Ansonia Ct as a loving sister to Thomas Anthony, Lynn Anthony Jr., and David Twigg, sacrificing her education at Milford High School to support her family. On October 3rd, 1970, she married George Patrick McIntyre, son of late George Fredrick (2009) and Irene McIntyre (2021). Over the next decade, she would serve as a U.S. Army military spouse, become the mother of three children (Erik, George, and Shaun) and settle in Connecticut. The early 1980s were busy and exciting, seeing the birth of her youngest son Shaun and committing time as a soccer and baseball mom and a cub scout den leader in Naugatuck Ct. This is where she returned to night school and completed her high school education. She and George also started a successful knitting business, making children's and doll apparel. She was affectionately known as the "Knitnut ."In 1984, adversity struck Andrea with Leukemia cancer. She would spend the next year living in a hospital, fighting for her life, beating every odd, and putting cancer into remission.

The late 1980s were both exciting and sad. In 1987, Andrea and George put their lives first. They moved to Shoreham, Vt, where they began a new life as business owners and watched their boys play baseball, ride horseback, participate in cub scouts and go into the military. Sadly this year, Andrea would also see her loving father pass away. Andrea and George would spend the late 1980s caring for their own family as well as her loving mother, Maria Catherine "Cathy," until she passed in 1991. Regrettably, Andrea and George would eventually part, and Andrea would spend life living in every moment, seeking joy and peace while overcoming troubled pasts. Andrea genuinely tried to embrace relationships in her own way, with love, kindness, goodness, and gentleness. She patiently persevered through trials and tribulations, standing with a spirit of God and a warrior that fueled 38 years of fighting cancer and recovery. Andrea was free-spirited, loved everyone, and was loved by many. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, the outdoors, riding horses and motorcycles, and participated in many gatherings celebrating her Native American heritage, known by many as "Medicine Woman". As a veteran spouse, she loved this country and continued to support military members. She honored countless service members through tireless dedication, volunteering many hours of service and riding with the Florida Patriot Guard Riders Association and supporting veterans nation-wide with "The Traveling Wall(s)". Andrea fought on until October 13th, 2022, when breathed her final breath and continued her journey in the arms of our Lord. Andrea was with her family while being cared for by loving and caring friends.

She is survived by her son Erik and daughter-in-law Kathy McIntyre, her loving son George McIntyre, and her beloved son Shaun and daughter-in-law Lisa McIntyre. Andrea leaves three grandsons, Keith McIntyre, Kyle McIntyre, and Evan McIntyre. Andrea is loved by Lynn Twigg Jr. and Jeanette of Florida, Thomas (deceased) and Delores Twigg of Florida, David and Lisa Twigg of Texas, Anthony and Amy Dicocco of Connecticut, Barrett and Shirley McIntyre of Nevada and their families. The family is forever grateful to the Florida Patriot Guard Riders and veterans support, countless medical practitioners, and the staff at Compassus (Allie, Aliesha, Christie, Erik, and Rita) for their boundless love, tireless dedication, and service. Celebrations of life will be held in separate and private ceremonies.

Andrea, may you Rest In Peace. I know how much you loved my brother. It was always you both to me. You moved heaven and earth to get to him when he died. We remember our nights bowling and pizza, every weekend. You have leukemia a big fight, how mommy said how strong you were. Rest In Peace with George and all. How proud of Erik and Kathy we are, your caregivers

A Prayer For Everyone
Lord, grant us the serenity
to accept the things we
cannot change, the courage to change the things we can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
Help us live one day at a time, enjoy one moment at a time. Help us to accept hardship as a pathway to peace: taking, as Your son did, this sinful world
as it is. not as we would have it.
Help us trust that You will make all things right if we surrender to Your will.
May we be good and humble servants in this life and forever in the next.
In Jesus Name
Amen

I met Andrea in Orlando where she readings at Universal. We sat and talked for about an hour then she handed me her phone number and said call. We spoke about everything you can imagine and it was like we had been friends for years and now I can say that I will miss that Medicine Woman and my friend since 2017. I am praying for her family and looking forward to seeing her again in the beautiful sunsets. Thank you for letting me be part of her memorial.
