Andrew Szabo, 66, of Irving, Texas, passed away on February 20, 2024. He was born on September 20, 1957, in London, England. He attended Harrow High School and Harrow Weald Grammar School, in Harrow, England, and received a BS in Economics at University Of Wales Swansea, in Wales.

Andrew lived a life of joy and passion for Jesus, touching the lives of all who knew him. He bravely battled ALS, demonstrating incredible strength and faith until the end. His unwavering belief in eternal life brought him peace. His motto was "Faith, Family & Friends".

He is survived by his wife, Melissa Hodges Szabo, son Alexander Szabo, daughter-in-law Daniela Szabo, grandson Sebastian Szabo, daughter Emma Szabo, sister Alexandra Szabo, brother-in-law Mark Pemberton, cousin Kata Miller, husband Charlie Miller, and their three children (Samu, Hanka and Leila). He was preceded in death by his father George Szabo, mother Susannah Gabonyi Szabo, father-in-law Charles Hodges, and mother-in-law Emma Langbehn Hodges.

Andrew pursued his passion for motivational speaking, writing, and coaching throughout his career. He began his journey with Hyatt Hotels and later ventured into marketing strategy and branding. Despite his battle with ALS, he continued coaching executives at CRU Ministries as a volunteer until his final days.

His dedication to his faith was evident through his worship at Hackberry Creek Church in Irving, TX. Andrew also found fulfillment in nine mission trips to Cuba and Ecuador, with East West Ministry, sharing the message of Jesus with those in need. His love for endurance sports, including marathons, triathlons, Iron Man races, and 100-mile bicycle races, showcased his determination and spirit.

A celebration of Andrew's life will be held on Thursday, February 29th, at 4pm at Irving Bible Church, 2435 Kinwest Parkway, Irving, TX. Donations can be made to the ALS Association - Texas Chapter or T. Boone Pickens Hospice & Palliative Care, Dallas, TX.

Andrew generously donated his body to research at the University of Texas Southwestern. A Memorial will be established at a later time.

In June 1970 I met Andrew for the first time when I stayed with the Szabó family at their home just north of London. He was just 13 years old then. Nine years later he showed up and stayed with me a few weeks in Berkeley, and we became instant friends for life.

The strength, dedication and bright light that Andrew brought with him to class was unparalleled. I feel honored to have had Andrew as a yoga student and friend for many years. Below are some pictures from one of our many workshops at Sunstone.

We may never understand why God takes the best ones home early, but my hope is that we can find some peace and comfort knowing that Andrew is finally free. My condolences go out to the Szabo family and all who are grieving this devastating loss.
Andrew, you will be deeply and dearly missed. May you rest easy.

I actually never met Andrew, but saw him a few times at the pool or lobby of our residencial building.
I understood what he and his wife were going through and felt emotional pain by simply watching him struggle to walk because my own husband also perished from A.L.S. back in 2020.
To Melissa and their family, please receive my comforting thoughts and a big hug.
God bless.

I met Andrew when he came to my work to introduce our staff to Positively Outrageous Service. He was always smiling and happy to teach us a new way of thinking towards our customers. He was an amazing man and I so appreciated his positive attitude towards everything! I am glad for a short time I was able to know him. I am so sorry for your loss and will keep you in my prayers.

It's the conversations beginning over a meal and venturing to a back patio. They were never as long as desired or as often but always inspiring. Here's a through back pic. Laughter was a vital part of these times.

I had the pleasure of meeting Andrew at AquaFit class at LA Fitness in 2022, and we became instant friends (as he seemed to do with everyone he met.) He always had a big smile and was genuinely interested in whomever he was speaking with. His upbeat attitude and love of Jesus was an inspiration to us all. Heaven´s gain is our loss.
