NORTH LEWISBURG - Anita Jane Benson, 87, of Urbana, formerly of North Lewisburg, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2018 in Vancrest of Urbana.
She was born April 8, 1931 in North Lewisburg, Ohio, the daughter of Ora Leland and Roma Dell (Euans) Spain. Anita was a member of the United Methodist Church of North Lewisburg and a lifelong member of the Women's Buck Creek Club. She enjoyed gardening, canning, crocheting, playing Euchre every Sunday, hunting mushrooms and loved boating at Indian Lake. She was a wonderful mother and grandma. She always was helping and giving to others. Her Euchre game on Sunday was very important and the friends she played with. She worked for 5 years before having children, then became a full-time mother and wife; she was married for 56 years to Richard Benson. She and Emelia Craig were best friends for a lifetime; thanks to her for all she did. Special thanks to Paula Shannon, Nora Evilsizor and Kate Ramby for their care and devotion.
Anita is survived by her daughters, Becky (Mike) Burkhardt, Linda (Phil) Wood and Janie (Mark) Acton; grandchildren, Nicky (David) Dexter, Tammy (Rodney) McCafferty and Aaron (Deana) Burkhardt; great-grandchildren, Cody, Lane and Taylo; and great-great-grandson, Jaxen.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard T. Benson; and brother, Richard Spain.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2018 in the FRESHWATER, McDONALD & VERNON FUNERAL HOME in North Lewisburg, Ohio with Pastor Karen Montgomery officiating. Family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service from 1 to 3 p.m. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, North Lewisburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to North Lewisburg United Methodist Church, 124 Maple St., North Lewisburg, Ohio 43060.

Becky, Linda, and Janie, we are so sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. She was such a joy to be around. We loved her and your dad's stories at the lake. Those were such good times, we remember fondly. You will be in our prayers and hearts.
