Anita Rupner Newberry, 74, wife of Warren Martin Newberry, Sr., of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, died February 5, 2022 at her home. She and Warren had been married for 43 years when he passed away in 2019. Born in Germany on June 23, 1947, the daughter of Ilmar Rupner and Irina Rupner, she grew up in South Windsor, CT and raised a family of her own in Vernon, CT. She devoted her career to teaching where she positively impacted the lives of thousands of students. She leaves one son and his wife, Warren "Skip" Newberry, Jr. and Olivia Zirker; a daughter and her husband, Kristin (Newberry) Purcell and Jamie Purcell; and three grandchildren, Linus, Louisa and Shelby. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church, P.O. Box 165, South Windsor 06074.

I am so sorry to see that Ms. Rupner passed away. There was a post on Fb, asking who our most favorite teacher was, so I put down, my 5th grade teacher Anita Rupner, at Charles Barnum. With that I decided to google her name, only to come across her obituary. Ms Rupner was so kind to me (age 8, 1974), having recently moved to New London, from Mystic (prior to that, Hawaii). I was growing up to be a military brat, & I was a little insecure about my new school & friends that year. I asked if I could write to her over the summer after 5th grade, of course she said yes, & we corresponded over the summer of 75. I remember her talking about staying with her parents, while enjoying their pool, that hot summer. Anyways- I´ve never forgotten her kindness, even now at age 58. Sincere condolences to her family.
