HILTON HEAD ISLAND - Ann Cathcart, of Hilton Head Island, died early Thursday morning, September 16, 2010, of complications from lung cancer at her home in the Seabrook Apartments. She was 87. Mrs. Cathcart was the daughter of George and Jennie LeBlanc of Forest Hills, N.Y. She married James A. Cathcart Jr. in 1946, and, two years later, the Cathcarts moved to Tuxedo Park, N.Y. She reared six sons, two of them from Mr. Cathcart's first marriage. The Cathcarts retired to Hilton Head Island in 1972. An avid golfer and bridge player, Mrs. Cathcart participated in numerous formal and informal competitions on Hilton Head. She was also instrumental in forming the Hilton Head Chapter of the Sweet Adelines women's barbershop chorale and was active in the Hilton Head Island Playhouse. She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Hilton Head. Mrs. Cathcart lived in Sea Pines Plantation until moving into the Seabrook Apartments in 1997. Mr. Cathcart passed away in 1991. Mrs. Cathcart is survived by six sons, James A. Cathcart III of Tuxedo Park and Kiawah Island, Charles D. Cathcart, formerly of Tuxedo Park, George L. Cathcart of Columbia, Md., John S. Cathcart of Wilton, Conn., Sanders B. Cathcart of Chatham, N.J., and William R. Cathcart of Tempe, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Burial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 21, 2010, in Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Ave., Columbia. A memorial service will also be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 50 Pope Avenue, Hilton Head Island. The Rev. Samuel R. Todd, Mrs. Cathcart’s nephew, will officiate at both services. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, friends may make donations in Mrs. Cathcart’s name to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 50 Pope Avenue, Hilton Head Island, SC 29928, or to a charity of their own choosing.
