Anna Catoir Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 27, 2010.
Anna Marie Catoir, 32 years old, of Covington, La, passed away on Saturday evening, December 25th, gathered into the Shepherd's arms that silent night & carried home to paradise. An angel inside & out, born August 23,1978. Anna Marie was the beloved daughter of Mary Modica Catoir and Clyde George Catoir Jr., & she shimmers on in their hearts and minds, now & forever a part of them.

Anna Marie graduated from Nicholls State University. She was an artist, poet, & a lively moving force in literary arts for the Northshore, of the greater New Orleans area. She was a member of the board of directors of the Northshore Literary Society. Always smiling, always kind-hearted, as a bookseller & general manager of Barnes & Noble Bookstore in Mandeville for nine years. She was a friend & mentor to many writers in the area. Her own writing, fantasy fiction & poetry, had a crisp, musical quality that was enchanting-like wind chimes blowing in a breeze. Her work has been published in Mosaic, the Nicholls State Literary Journal, & at Fictional Musings online. Her poem, Godmother, published on GoblinFruit.net in the spring of 2008, was nominated for the 2009 Dwarf Stars Award.

Her visual art in the form of mask making reveals, like the turn of seasons, a different & yet similarly unique talent. Her fantastical masks that seem spun from a magical world. Her mask, Harlequin, was displayed in 2006 at the UC Davis Design Museum in the juried exhibition, Face the Nation IV. Another mask, The Green, was displayed at the Southern Illinois University Carbondale Mask Exhibit in 2006. http://amcatoir.wordpress.com/

Anna Marie also taught classes in mask making, scrapbooking, & beginner's family tree to children & altered books for adults at St. Tammany Libraries for two years. Her masks have also been exhibited in the Mandeville Branch library each Mardi Gras season.

She reviewed books for several publishers & worked with local authors. The lure of books was overwhelming to her, travel & everything in-between. She loved masked balls, comic book conventions, live theater, photography, haunting bookstores, fairs & museums.

" Anna Marie was such a special spirit. She was the most unique individual I have ever known. Her ability to remain true to herself & her ability to get along with everyone she met was inspirational. She was the single most non-judgmental and accepting person, with never a negative or unkind word about anyone. Anna Marie had an amazing ability to retain everything she ever read & learned, her intelligence was astounding, she was constantly doing things, I honestly believe there wasn't anything she couldn't do if she put her mind to it. She had the ability to look at a book & know who would like it. She was easily the best person I have ever known." Lori B.

"Anna Marie's beauty inside & out, brains galore and a " to know her is to love her" personality made the room light up. I wish I could talk to her once more - I loved to have a serious conversation with her and then say something totally ludicrous & watch her roll those big, brown eyes to the sky. Life is so painful - she will be greatly missed." Mary Lee Wood

"Anna Marie was the best of all of us. She had the biggest, most pure heart of anyone I have ever known. Anna Marie lived life to the fullest & never put off till tomorrow what she could do today. She never let her disabilities stop her or even slow her down. I love the way she collected words, she had a vocabulary that would make Webster envious. I will forever miss her infectious laugh & delightful smile. I am without a doubt one of the most fortunate people in the world for having her as a friend and sister. I like to imagine Anna Marie sitting in heaven with her wings watching over all of us, reading books & collecting words." Jessica Boynton

"Anna Marie was an angel on earth, the pain she endured was the fires and daggers of hell, she complained little but she was in deep pain, as she was so hopeful and trusting. She kept begging the doctors to get a plan to help her but it was not the case, one wasted too much time initially misdiagnosing her, she was willing to keep trying only to live another day but her body couldn't take any more. Now, she is free to read all the books, visit with all the authors gone before her, have time to finish her novel & many short stories left scattered, make all the Masks & Faerie Houses she wants or whisper book titles & hints down to all her earth bound friends. We will always be with you." Love Mom and Dad

Greatly missed by her family, brother Guy E. Catoir, late grandparents Anna and Salvadore E. Modica and Joyce and Clyde G. Catoir Sr., aunts & uncles Stephanie & Gary Catoir, Cindy & Ronald Catoir, Joanne & Michael Palestina, cousins in Louisiana and several states, her honorary Aunt & Uncle Mary Ann & Van Dubrock, who treated her as their daughter; she was blessed with the friendship of their two sons. Also, missed by many wonderful long time friends & business associates.

Memorial visitation at 9:00 am with Mass at 11:00 am to be held on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Garden of Memories Chapel, 4900 Airline Hwy. Metairie, La.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Anna Marie Catoir Memorial Fund, c/o Capital One Bank, 3840 Hwy 22, Mandeville, La. 70471 - envelopes available at service. This will be used to support causes close to Anna Marie's heart, to help future aspiring artists & authors through the Northshore Literary Society & the St. Tammany Library.

Dear Mary & Clyde,

First let me offer my sincere condolences for the loss of your Anna Marie. I can only imagine what you must be going through. I was shocked & saddened to hear of her passing.

I knew Anna Marie from Barnes & Noble. I am one of the founders of The Jane Austen Literary Festival in Mandeville. Anna Marie helped us from the very inception with bringing B&N on board as one of partners in the Festival. Whenever she had an idea that might help us she would call me. I still have a message from her on my cell phone. She suggested that we partner with the Northshore Literary Society, which has turned out to be a successful endeavor. I often visited B&N & would overhear her talking to high school students, sharing her creative ideas with them & it would make me smile. I had no problem remembering her name because my name is Danna Marie.

Our 4th annual Festival is taking place this weekend. Sunday's events will take place at The Lake House on the Mandeville Lakefront. We will be having a brunch & readings of love letters. The winner of our Perfect Love Letter competition is announced at the Festival on Sunday. Also the Northshore Literary Society is doing a panel on how to write a book & get it published. Since Anna Marie was so instrumental in helping us get our nonprofit off the ground, we are dedicating the love letter section to her. I am trying to get together some of her writings & a photo to display on our cherished Letters from the Attic table at the event. I have printed out some of her writings from her blog but was wondering if you had some poetry, photos & other memorabilia we could borrow for Sunday's events. I would like to have some of her poetry read aloud. You are more than welcome to join us & do a reading yourselves. I can send you further information detailing the events of our Festival if you would like.

Sincerely,
Danna Acker

Mary and Clyde

It is with a heavy heart that I express my sympathy on Anna Marie's passing. She was such a wonderful young woman. I taught Anna Marie gifted math at CHS. I admired the way she worked so hard to overcome her dyslexia. I have seen her often at Barnes and Noble and enjoyed visiting with her. I can only imagine your anguish over losing her at all, but especially this way. I will always remember her smile and her determination to succeed. I feel fortunate to have known her. May God's love and the knowledge that you will meet again comfort and sustain you.

Dear Mary Catherine,
I have kept up with the news all this time and am so sorry to hear of Anna Marie's death. I too lost my son Matt last year June. He was only 29 so I know a little of what this is like for you. It a pain like no other. All I can tell you is to hang onto the belief that only her body is gone, her spirit is right there with you, every moment of every day. She is part of you always, into eternity and beyond. And when you leave this earth, she will be waiting for you. For now, I can tell you that as hard as this is, it does get better.

Mary I am so sorry to hear about Anna Maire, I also lost my brother at 28 to cancer this year 2010. I will share the poem I wrote for him with you.

God saw you getting tired
and a cure was not meant to be.
so he put his arms around you
and whispered "Come to me."
With tearful eyes we watched you,
as we saw you pass away.
Although we loved you deeply,
we could not make you stay.
Your Golden Heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.

Dear Clyde and Mary,

Patsy and myself wanted to send our regards toward you loss. We are terribly sorry. Yet, we want you both to know that your daughter has not left without you, she lives through you both. Clyde, never stop telling your stories and Mary don't allow memories of her to fill yourself with sorrow, let those thoughts fill your heart with Joy. Be strong for each other, now more than ever.

When I left to Indiana, Patsy said how she would be, and how far away we were going to be from each other. I told her, "Don't worry, I'm just right there." This holds the same with your daughter, she is not gone, and yall haven't lost her. She is waiting! She's just right there. I
hope these words find comfort on your heart.

With love,

Hello,
I am truly sorry for the loss of Anna Marie. I only worked with her for a short period of time, but she left a huge mark in my life; as she did with so many people. Anna Marie poured her heart into Barnes and Noble. She dedicated a big part of her life to this store and the company. And this store is better because of Anna Marie. I just wanted you to know that Anna Marie and her family will always be part of the Barnes and Nobel family. There will never be someone like her again; so happy, vibrant and full of knowledge and great ideas. I miss her very much, as does everyone else in the store. If there is ever anything that we can do; please let me know.
Love,
Christy Casey

I was very sorry to hear that Anna Marie died.  I know that you will miss her.  She did a lot of suffering, but rest assured that it was not in vane.  All of
the prayers and suffering that was done during her illness will help her get to heaven faster.  I know I felt that way about my Mom when she was in the hospital before she died.  I hated to see her suffer as much as she did, but I knew in the end we all have to do our share of suffering.  What we do here on earth will
help us after we die.  You did a lot to help her during her illness.  She was very lucky to have a friend like you.

Take care and God bless you,

It is with much sympathy that I write. As the teen services coordinator with the library, I have the wonderful opportunity to meet Anna Marie, in 2005 and have her present programs to the teens, with a fantastic talented, lovely smart, sweet and happy person she was! It was always such a pleasure to chat and work with Anna Marie. When I found out about her passing, I was, like everyone who knew her, completely shocked and saddened by this too early departure. The world is truly a lesser place without Anna Marie.
My thoughts and prayers to your family. May you derive happiness knowing, that she can share her talents with those in heaven.

I am so sorry to here about Anna Marie this Sunday morning but I sit here and cry for you. I can not imagine the pain you are going through and hope I never do,I hear and feel the pain in your typing and that breaks my heart,I believe I was one of the ones who sent her a card and an angel and I hope I put a smile on her face and gave her some hope for one split moment,as her sister in Christ it was the least I could do, what a wonderful day to go home though on Jesus birth, I was born on Christmas eve and I always wondered was I Jesus birthday gift or was he mine and I know he is min.

Our Good Father lifted her home and took her out of pain,I know you Love her and will miss her but if she was in the pain, now she is living in the Kingdom of heaven how wonderful is that? With my Deepest sympathy and sorrows Hugs...Libby

Mary,

I was saddend today to read of your darling daughters passing on Christmas. I have not lost a child, but lost my Godmother (who I was the closest to as we were together all of my life) and it took me quite some time to "feel ok". Take all the time that you need, and know that you are blessed with the memories of the times that you shared together.

I know also that I also felt glad that my aunt was no longer in pain, as cancer had its way with her body also, and as you know it can be very painful. I believe that in heaven there is no more pain.

I am sure that no words can make you feel anything but your loss, so I will close in saying that you are in my prayers.

Blessings,

Thank you so much for giving us just a little insight into your Anna Marie's amazing life. It was definitely cut too short but only God knows why. I am sorry that she had to suffer in her pain and not being diagnosed properly. It is such a sad time of the year to lose someone that you love so dearly. We will pray that God gives your family peace and that you will be able to move on and enjoy the things that you love doing. It really seems that everything that you love to do touches your daughter's life in some way. Let that be a blessing and enjoy recalling those memories. Treasure the time you had together and the closeness you felt with her; those things don't happen too often in people's lives now days. Everyone is always to busy to really stop and smell the roses and be thankful for what they have.

Blessings to your family and hopefully you, in time, will be able to finish your booklet, that it will benefit many families and bring blessings into their lives in Anna Marie's name.

Love to you,
Margaret S.

Clyde and Mary,
The hardest thing in the world for a parent to endure is the loss of a child...no matter the age. Know that you all are in my prayers.

Mary,
Words cannot express how sorry I am. I know that Anna Marie fought to stay here with us. In the end God needed her more to be an Angel for Him. I am sure she made an everlasting mark on this Earth. Take as much time as you need. We are all here if you need anything.

Hugs& Stitches,

Eliza

Dear Mary, dear Clyde,
we feel really sorry for the loss of Anna Marie. She was such a friendly, warm-hearted person. She now is in a better place with no more pain and distress.

It was only 5 weeks since we have met Anna Marie. It was our big hope, that radiation would be able to get her on a better way, and it was really a shock to read your eMail today.
We are so glad, that we were able to meet her and we will always keep her in our hearts.

We know, that it is difficult to give you some comfort, but please always keep in mind the good times you have been able to spend together with Anna Marie!

We wish you all the best,

Doro and Marc

Mary,
Thank you so very much for allowing me to share in the wonderful memories you have of your daughter. She really was an exceptional person. I'm sure everyone who knew her will remember and miss her throughout their years. I believe she is allowing you to mourn her but will soon be pushing you to cherish the memories but move on with your life in helping others as she would have done. She's still with you - it's just that you can't see her physical presence. I went to her site and looked at her work - amazing. Such a talented young woman. Even though we have never met and never will, your family is in my thoughts and prayers. May you all be blessed and one day you will meet again in Heaven.

Aww, Mary I am so sorry for your loss especially on Christmas. It's never easy to loose someone but being on a special holiday makes i harder. We here were just dealing with our first Xmas without my father in law who passsed away in March from Mulitple Myloma (Bone cancer).. I will pray for you and your family that you find some peace and comfort knowing she's free of pain and is once again Happy and whole, and dancing with the collies at the Bridge. I am sure it is a beautiful place, much better than here. I know we will all be reunited with our loved ones someday. Take care!

When I think of Anna Marie, I remember her bouncy curls at 4 years old when she went to John Calvin Preschool with my sons. She was outgoing and cute and oh so smart. She grew into a fine woman with wonderful ideas. She is now in heaven making masks and writing and getting the big library in order!
