Costello
Anne Jane Mary Costello (nee Sands) was born on March 26, 1929 and passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on February 3, 2023. She was 93 years old. She was the ninth of eleven children born to the late William and Elizabeth (nee Galligan) Sands.
Anne was a proud graduate of Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls class of 1947. She was a longstanding member of LAOH Division #87. She was member of St. Leo parish in Tacony for 48 years moving to St. Katherine of Siena parish in her later years.
Anne married the love of her life, John D. Costello, on November 27, 1954. Together they danced and laughed side-by-side all the while raising ten children in the Tacony section of Philadelphia until his sudden passing on October 26, 1990.
Anne was a party in a pair of shoes. Family was everything to her. As the matriarch of the Costello family she was always ready to host a party or attend any event, particularly if it involved her family. There was always room for one more at her house. Always the perfect lady, Anne would light up any room with her ready smile, bright blue eyes and the ability to tell a story. She often reminisced about her childhood in Port Richmond and her many adventures with her siblings and then later with her husband and their children. She was loved by everyone who met her.
Anne will be forever missed by her 10 children Stephen (Betty), Miriam, Ken (Linda), Timothy (Kim), Patrick (Lori), Carolyn (the late William), Christopher, Elaine (Gary), Joseph (Brian) and Anthony, 22 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, Anne requested donations to the Jack Costello Boxing Club (Boxing - Jack Costello Boxing Club), a non-profit organization established in service to the community that was close to her heart and named in memory of beloved husband.
Family and friends are invited to call Thursday, February 9th 5-9 PM St. Katherine of Siena Church, 9700 Frankford Avenue Philadelphia, PA 19114. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 10th 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Our Lady of Grace cemetery in Langhorne, PA immediately following Mass.

To the Costello Family,
My heartfelt sympathy is with you, Anne was loved beyond words by so many. Take comfort in her memories during this time of grief and always. Sending love from myself and my late parents Jack & Maureen, they adored Anne & the Costello family deeply. I am certain she received a great big hug upon arrival in heaven. XO

We all remember all the good times we shared with Aunt Ann. We referred to her, Aunt Miriam, Aunt Natalie, Aunt Mary and Aunt Betty as the Golden Girls. Their visits to our mom (Aunt Jean) were always the highlight of the month! She would look forward to those visits and then talk about all the laughs they had after they left. Now Aunt Ann is joining Mary, Betty and our mom. We are sure she is getting a big welcome from them and all the family that has passed before her.
In memory of Aunt Ann we have made a donation to the Jack Costello Boxing Club as the Scannell Family.
We know that there really are no words that can express our condolences to your family, but know that you are in our hearts and prayers.

Always the Queen with a smile

I know this will be said over and over again but Mrs Costello was one of the most unique and wonderful women outside of my own mother that I have had the privilege of knowing. I will miss our luncheons at Millers Ale House and all her wonderful stories. RIP Mrs C you will be forever missed.
