Anne O'Brian Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 6, 2019.
Anne Patricia O'Brian (YNC (SW/AW))
3/17/2019 2/22/2019
Anne was born St. Patrick's day 1966 in Baltimore Maryland to Betty Nortnik and Donald Megenhardt. She died suddenly February 22, 2019. She is survived by her mother of Golden, CO, sister Beth Megenhardt of Arizona and brothers Paul Megenhardt of Parker, CO and Phil Megenhardt of Seattle, WA.

She graduated Pomona High School of Arvada CO in 1984. Anne joined the US Navy in 1985, was highly decorated and retired in 2005 as a Chief Petty Officer.

Upon retiring she focused on veterans' issues, specifically women veterans and was hiking the Appalachian Trail for awareness of them and mental health issues related to service.

She was a great rescuer of dogs and lover of all animals. An amazing spirit with a boundless sense of humor, she lit up any room she entered and anyone's life she was lucky enough to come across.

There will be a burial service at Phoenix National Cemetery March 14th, at 12:30.

Thinking of & missing my dear friend & soul sister, Anne with an E OBrian with an A & she was born on St. Patricks Day. Still cant fathom that her beautiful, kind, talented & fun loving spirit is not physically here anymore. She was first my acting student & quickly became my friend & confidante of the most genuine kind. I will miss her always, but her spirit remains w/ me always. Rest & have peace my dear Anne. I hope you & my G.I, Joe are rockin the cosmos & you are with Baby Gurl & Angel. You, my friend, are an angel & were one for me so many times. Im toasting u with a Guiness right now. I know youd appreciate that & laugh at & with me. Godspeed love.

I was so lucky that Anne and I were able to reconnect just recently down in Vegas and had a great time. We spent a lot of time talking about HS, military life, and our future hikes we were to take. My surgery prevented that but I will get out there and do it for you Anne! May everyone remember that smile, you will be missed! Thank you for your service my friend! When I am in Ireland I will be sure to have one for you!

Anne and I went to high school together. I can still see that smile that could light up a room and hear her laugh. She was quite the jokester. She will be missed. My prayers go out to her family.

My first memory of Annie I was 9 and came to see us (my grandparents and I) Which was her uncle Joe and aunt Clare while we were on The Five B's docked at the inner harbor for a weekend festival. Annie came down the pier with Aunt Betty following behind. We spent the entire day hanging out and had so much fun. Fast forward 25 years later...... I saw Annie when she came to visit and spend some time with her cousin Cindy in the Poconos and she was great when they came to visit we took the kids to the aquarium for the day and had a nice lunch at The Hard Rock Cafe, I still have the bag she gave to me. She was a great person with a huge heart, she will forever be missed another one that we have lost way before her time was due. God must of had a different plan!

Anne had a huge living and caring heart! She was a smart, funny and amazing young woman. She touched my life in so many ways and I will miss her dearly! We first met on active duty in the Navy in 1987 in Pax River MD. She came to visit me in Hawaii a couple of times in the early 90s. Later we reconnected on Facebook and reunited in Las Vegas Vegas for her 50th birthday celebration on St. Patrick's day. Since then she visited me in Hawaii three times and we made plans to go to New Zealand and Ireland.
Aloha Hui Ho! Till we meet again!

Anne was as real as people come. She was always up for laughs and was a sturdy rock to lean on when I had to get something off my mind. She earned respect of many and it was an honor to have served with her. Rest in peace, sister.

I am so saddened to hear this news. We were friends in high school and she had my back a few times by standing up for me and many others. She was always funny and telling jokes. She will be missed dearly, and my condolences to her family during this time of loss.

Anne was an amazing woman. Her love for all was captured one wonderful summer when we drove up and down I95. The trip began with us helping an AT hiker get from Pennsylvania to Maine. You see, Anne had signed on to be an AT angel. After spending hours in the car, making new friends, taking pictures, dropping off our travelers, and saying good-bye we headed back down 95. "Hey Kathy, let's stop in Belfast, Maine. Sounds Irish. It can't be that bad." Walking around we spoke to many, made new friends, took pictures, and said good-bye. "Hey Kathy. Let's stop in Boston." We stayed the night, took a walking tour, made new friends, took pictures, and said good-bye. "Hey Kathy. Let's go to South Carolina to see the eclipse." While there we found a wallet. I wanted to turn it in to the police, but Anne went through it and in two hours we were meeting its owner. Made new friends, took pictures, and said good-bye. "Hey Kathy. Let's go to Charleston." Toured the city, made new friends, took pictures, and said good-bye. "Hey Kathy, Let's go see your granddaughter Emily in Myrtle Beach. She's vacationing there. It isn't far." Took Emily out to dinner, met the restaurant owner, made new friends, took pictures, and said good-bye. What I learned as we returned back to Bel Air was this was Anne every day. She always smiled, always loved, and took time to meet new friends. I can't even fathom the thousands of people she met and made them all feel like friends. So as I say my final good-bye, I am reminded to continue Anne's legacy by taking trips, embracing adventures, making new friends and by all means, taking pictures. Thank you Anne. Miss and Love you.

Anne and I were Plankowners on the USS Bonhomme Richard LHD-6.

She was a lot of fun to be around, always optimistic even when we worked long hours.

There are people who are born for greatest and Anne was that special.

Rest in Paradise my Sistermate, may your legacy live on in the hearts of all those who loved you!

More than anything, Anne was family. Whether she was walking on the Appalachian Trail or serving her country in Iraq or on a remote island in the Indian Ocean, she maintained a presence in our hearts. She was family, one of twenty grandchildren of my mother. Her passing prompted an outpouring of love and sorrow from her cousins and friends. Each of us have our own Annie story (I know, I know. Its Anne not Annie).
Her passing has left a hole in our hearts, but memories of her contagious smile and laughter and, her unconstrained greetings when she met you, will fill that hole for many of us.
I love you Anne

I would like to say first off that Anne was my first Chief I ever served under and not only did she welcome me into the Admin community, she pushed me as well as every other Sailor to succeed to our fullest potential. I am also grateful to have met and served with her and would like to thank her parents for bringing such a wonderful person into this world. My prayers go out to your family and may they always know that you are smiling down upon them! Thank you Anne OBrian for being a great mentor during our time on the USS Bonhome Richard (LHD 6), you will truly be missed...

I went to Pomona High School with Anne and I actually worked with her mother, Betty, for Jefferson County in the early 90's. Words are never adequate at a time like this, but sometimes it is all we have. My most sincere sympathies extend to Anne's family, shipmates and friends. May her love and memories bring comfort and healing.
