Anthony D'Averso Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 27, 2025.
Anthony Dominic D'Averso, age 76, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at the Curtis Home in Meriden, CT, on July 18, 2025. Born in Waterbury, CT, on August 22, 1948, to Theresa and Michael D'Averso, Anthony was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Edith King, and his brother Michael D'Averso. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Anthony, affectionately known as Tony, is survived by his two children, Anthony Michael D'Averso and Theresa Jean (D'Averso) Sawchak, along with their spouses, daughter-in-law Rachele D'Averso and son-in-law Joseph Sawchak. He was blessed with three grandchildren whom he dearly loved: Anjahlianna, Giada, and Anthony D'Averso II. Tony also shared a special bond with his granddaughter's fiancé, Ikaiah Nakoa, who continually supported the family in countless ways. Tony is also survived by his beloved younger brother, Joseph D'Averso, and sister-in-law Jenny. His remarkable memory shone when recalling all of his relatives, and he especially appreciated the comforting presence of his cousins, Joey and John Balzano, during his final days. Tony was deeply grateful for the visits and support he received from family and friends during his time in Connecticut.

Raised in a hardworking family, Tony always strove to provide for his loved ones. His career included more than 30 dedicated years as a maintenance foreman at Naugatuck High School, several years working alongside his brother Joe at Beacon Brook Health Center, and a position as a security guard at Audemars Piguet in Clearwater, Florida.

Tony was best known for his exceptional wit and sense of humor. He often said that if he could make just one person laugh each day, he would feel fulfilled. He was also a passionate sports fan, particularly loyal to the New York Giants, attending many games over the years. He greatly enjoyed fishing as well.

Above all, Tony's best decision was to entrust his life to his heavenly Father, Jehovah God. He symbolized his dedication through water baptism on October 24, 1992. Tony was a devoted member of the Largo West Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Florida. Upon returning to Connecticut, Tony expressed clearly how he wanted to spend the remainder of his days-sharing God's beautiful promises found in the Bible. Jehovah blessed the desires of his heart. As Tony shared the truths that brought him peace and hope, he inspired many through his unwavering trust in Jehovah God, His Son Jesus Christ, and God's heavenly Kingdom government, which he firmly believed will soon solve all human problems. - (Matthew 6:10, Daniel 2:44, Revelation 21:3,4)

Our family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the Hartford Healthcare Hospice team, who ensured Tony was comfortable and safe during his illness. Your compassion and advocacy were deeply appreciated. Additionally, we express our sincere gratitude to the exceptional staff at the Curtis Home for their outstanding care over these last few months. We are profoundly grateful to friends from the Waterbury South Congregation and especially to Ray and Shirley Burrell, whose encouragement strengthened Tony in his race for everlasting life. Thank you all sincerely for your empathy, continued prayers, and support.

Tony, we were next door neighbors and you were the first friend I ever made. You were always the one with the wit and ability to make us all laugh. I'm glad we connected via phone during the time of Covid. Unfortunately we never got to see each other. God bless you until we meet again.

Tony, we met when I was your next door neighbor, still a young teenager; but a friendship formed with you and Hermenia, then with your kids. The friendship lasted all these years. I am glad you found God, and peace. You will be missed, but I choose to celebrate your life and the memories, not the sorrow of your passing.
