ANTHONY FICARO Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 4, 2022.
ANTHONY JOSEPH FICARO, 75, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022, from com -plications of Guillaine Barre Syndrome. He put up a brave fight for 11 months. Tony was born in Houston, Texas to Anthony and June Ficaro. He was raised along with his siblings in South Windsor, Conn. Tony graduated from East Catholic High School in 1965, later studied electrical engineering at the Indiana Institute of Technology. In 1975, Tony opened Figaros with his brother Brian. Figaros specialized in "grinders", the Connecticut version of a sub sandwich along with light Italian fare. In 1981, Tony moved Figaros to S. Harrison St. near the Landing where Tony introduced a more bistro style menu reflecting his expanded tastes and flare. The outdoor patio during the Three Rivers festival was an event to be remembered by many. In 1991, Tony opened a catering kitchen known as Splendid Fare where he catered events both big and small for 30 years. Being a foodie himself, Tony had a refined interest in food and wine selections. He also appreciated the arts, from performing to visual arts, all types of music, and attending the Ann Arbor Fair every year. He is survived by his children, Chris (Shilo) Pommer and Anthony Paul Ficaro; grandchildren, Brock, Jocelyn, Shia, and Greyson; mother, June Ficaro; siblings, Pat Ficaro (Rod) Moffett, Brian Ficaro, Margaret (Marty) Forler, and Ed Ficaro; girlfriend, Pat Branning; and many nieces and nephews as well as family and friends. Tony was preceded in death by his father, Anthony J. Ficaro. A memorial gathering to honor Tony's life is from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, at his residence at 521 W. Wayne St., Fort Wayne, Ind. Words of remembrance may be shared starting at 2 p.m.

So sorry for your loss, Tony was one of a kind. I had used him as a caterer when I worked at the Chamber and then when I had him cater my wedding, he made it a gift. Such a sweet soul.

Pat, Brian, Peg and Ed: Our parents were close and we all enjoyed many holidays and vacations together. Our teen years were the best, enjoying the humous rivalry between our high schools. Anthony´s passing is sobering and sorrowful. My deepest sympathy.
To Chris, Anthony and Pat, my condolences on the passing of a good man.
May memories of happier times comfort all during this sad time.
