I have already entered my comment, however I am so impressed with the number and words of all the friends writing in I wanted to say something else. I now know why I still have such favorable memories from the 50's of the Petitt family, it is so obvious in all the writings. Is Tony's father "Bob?" still alive?

Tony Petitt is a name that will forever find it's way to my tongue and will always bring a smile to my face. A lifetime of memories will always keep him close at heart. Heaven sure is filling up fast with the funniest and rowdiest of Springfield's rebels....Love you always Ton~ slug Brian first and then hug him for me when you meet up with him up there....You will never be forgotten. Mwuah...And , of course, I send my deepest sympathy and regret to all those who are touched by this monumental loss. It's a pain I am all too familiar with myself. God Bless.

Troy, Banita and families:
One day when you least expect it, something will bring a memory of your loved one to mind... In that moment you'll know that a link remains, a bridge from the past to the future... and that the person you loved, in someway lives on forever.
How wonderful that we will all be together again someday. May God's peace be with you and yours.

To the Pettit family. I'm very sorry to hear about Tony. I knew him doing my boxing years with Dikes boxing team in Springfield, IL. His Dad was my trainer Bob Pettit. I have many good memories of Tony Pettit and Dennis Pettit we use to travel on the road a lot in different towns and different States. Tony was only about 9 or 10 years old at the time but when we didn't go out of State his Dad would bring him along sometime. Plus he use to come to the gym a lot he also would box my little brother Gearld Johnson and after the fight people would throw money in the ring for them.

What a cool guy, just like all the girls in hi school, I had a major crush on Tony. His brother Bob coon hunted with my dad (Don Price) and my husband (Dean King). Dean met an untimely end, much the same as Tony, I know how it hurts, but have to assume everyone "up there" is OK now. Tony was known for his great smile and being a "good friend", what more can you say about the guy. He will be greatly missed. I want the family to know I am feeling for "all" of them. They are all in my thoughts, Dennis, especially. Who needs prayers more than he?

To The Pettit Family, We were so sad to here about your loss of TONY! We all hung out in high school well, when we were there.HA!HA!Then about 15 years later we gave our kids the pleasure of several good times with Tony, when he would give them and the neighborhood kids rides on the kart pulled by shetland ponies. He would also give them rides on his horse when he passed by. I am so sorry for your loss and the tragedy that has hit your family. Tony was good friends with my brother growing up & always welcome at our house. Sometimes, he would help me cook dinner. He did get me to iron his hair! I was so afraid that I would burn him with the iron. Tony always said to me,"Don't worry. You aren't going to hurt me". I have and will always treasure my memories of Tony.
May the Lord hold you close during this difficult time. God bless you.

Greg & families,
You are in our thoughts and prayers. I remember my 4th grade year, at Sherman Grade school. A bunch of us were playing bombardo at recess and Tony threw the ball and broke my little finger. He felt so bad when it happened. Also, when my daughters were young, Tony let them ride a couple of his horses and they had a great time. Remember the good times you had with Tony and be each other's support during this time.

To the Pettit family,

I had known Tony since I (and he) was very young - we showed horses together. In fact I had ridden a horse several times he had trained for barrel racing and retired - his name was Buck. Tony was always very nice to me. I would run into him at the fair each year, normally on the evening of the parade and we would talk a bit. My husband knew him as well.

I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers will be with all of you!

He was good friends with my brother growing up, so he was over at our house a lot. One time he tried to get me to iron his hair. I can still picture him laying his head on the ironing board saying "really I want you to iron my hair". I knew then he was a nut. :)
My thoughts and prayers are with the whole family.
