Antonio Platzer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 24, 2013.
Platzer, Antonio Albert "Mark"

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mark Platzer on Monday, July 22, 2013 at the age of 81 years. Mark was born Antonio Albert on June 30, 1932 in Calais, AB. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Brenda, and his four children: Krista (Scott) Deibert, Bob (Andrea) Platzer, Mark Platzer, and Lindsay (David) Kelcher; and grandchildren: Jayne and Reese, Raylene and Isaiah, Logan, Adeline and Emily. Mark cherished every opportunity to spend time with his children, grandchildren and family. Mark is also survived by his Aunt Marie Reid; brother George (Trudy) Platzer; sisters Dorothy (Neil) Webber and Marilyn (Andrew) Sereda and numerous nieces and nephews. Mark was predeceased by his parents, John and Anna Platzer, and brother Warren. Mark attended school in Grande Prairie and at University High School in Edmonton. In 1959, Mark graduated from the University of Alberta, earning a BSc. Mark enjoyed a long career with Park Davis, Warner Lambert/Pfizer. Following his retirement in Edmonton, Mark and Brenda moved to Calgary where he began work with Webber Academy. During his life, Mark was a tireless volunteer, first as the President of Greenfield Community League, the Kiwanis Club in Edmonton and also fund raising for many years of sons' hockey teams. In Calgary, Mark was active with Knights of Columbus and St Mary's Church in Cochrane. Mark enjoyed playing bridge with the gourmet/bridge group. Throughout his life, Mark enjoyed activities such as fishing, hunting, scuba diving, hiking, downhill and cross country skiing, water skiing and then bike riding on Calgary path ways. Mark was the "handyman", able to improvise to make anything work. He was selfless, always wanting to help his family and friends. Mark's gentle, kind, and generous nature will always be remembered. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 26, 2013 at 12:30 p.m. with Rev. Bill Corcoran at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hwy 22 and James Walker Trail (13 km north of the Trans Canada exit), Cochrane, AB. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, Suite 200-119 14 Street N.W. Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.

Dear Brenda and family,
We were in Vancouver and didn't hear about Mark's passing until we got back to Edmonton. So many memories come back when we think about the good times we had . About the vacations in Kelowna when Mark kept the little red boat going with duct tape, binder twine and WD40. about the calls in the pharmacy when the entire staff looked forward to Mark's visits About our whole lives evolving around hockey, hockey, hockey!!! Our thoughts and prayers are with you , Brenda

Dear Brenda and family,
I was in Saskatchewan when I heard of Mark's sudden passing. I wish I could have been there with you on the 26th to celebrate his life. What a full life he had and one that enriched your family as well as so many others. I always remember his quiet smile and warm ways at our gatherings. Indeed the terms gentle, kind and generous describe him so well. My sympathy to you and the children and grandchildren, Brenda. lots of love, Libby

Dear Mrs. Platzer and family,
I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Platzer's sudden passing. I knew him from the first day Webber Academy opened their doors on the west side of Calgary. He was such a pleasant and kind man, always had a smile for us even on the coldest of winter mornings when was there first to open the school for the kids and teachers. Kind regards, Elaine Butler

Dear Brenda and Family,
We were very sorry to hear of Mark's passing earlier this week. Growing up in Edmonton, we had a painting of a forested hill that hung in our family room. It was always one of my favorite paintings and I remember being surprised when I learnt as a teenager that Mr. Platzer had painted it years earlier. When our families got together, he was always a fun person to have at those gatherings. As well, I always enjoyed seeing him over these more recent years in Calgary.
Love,
James, Christa and Ella Davidge (Calgary, AB)

We were so shocked and saddened to hear of Mark's passing. I first met Mark when we was with Parke Davis and called on our drugstore. He was always great to deal with. The kindness your family showed to Jodi when you let her live with you will never be forgotten. Mark was a true gentleman and enriched the lives of those of us who were fortunate enough to know him. Our love goes out to the family.

We were surprised and saddened to hear of Mark's passing. We saw him last at the curling bonspiel here in Cochrane last December and he seemed happy and healthy. We are so sorry for your loss and we wish you all comfort in the memories of happier times with your beloved partner, father and grandfather. We're thankful to have had the opportunity to get to know him when we lived in Rocky Ridge. May you all find support and love in one another at this difficult time.
