Arlen Rasmussen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 12, 2025.
Arlen Aage Rasmussen, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025 at the age of 87.

Arlen was born in Oakland CA and grew up in San Leandro, where he built lifelong friendships and deep connections to the Bay Area. After graduating from San Leandro high school in 1957, he proudly served his country in the US Coast Guard aboard the USCG Chautauqua homeported in Honolulu, Hawaii.

In 1962 Arlen married Judy, the love of his life, and they were married for almost 50 years until she passed in 2011. Together they raised two sons, David and Daniel, who were the pride and joy of his life. He later welcomed his granddaughter, Aly, who also brought him immense joy.

Arlen worked for PG&E for 35 years, providing for his family with dedication and reliability. But outside of work, he was happiest with a fishing rod in his hand, especially when the salmon were running in the San Francisco Bay. Summers at the family cabin in Lake Almanor were also a treasured tradition, filled with laughter, relaxation, and stories that will live on in our memories. He loved to explore the world, traveling to places near and far from China to Alaska, from New York to Washington DC.

Arlen will be remembered for his devotion to family, his easy-going nature, and the joy he found in simple pleasures like fishing trips, time with friends, and gatherings at the lake.

He is survived by his two sons, David and Daniel, and his granddaughter Aly. He is now reunited with his beloved Judy.

A celebration of life will be planned in the near future and family and friends will be invited to come together to honor and remember him.

Arlen, you and your wonderful wife, Judy were a positive part of my teen years. When thoughts of those years surface, you both shine in the spotlight of that thought. The welcoming warmth I always felt entering your home, followed by the inevitable Dad joke. Shaped my growth into adulthood more than you will ever realize. Your affable nature, generousness of heart, buoyed the surface currents of my youth. Your twinkle smiling eyes will continue to shine bright in my life.

What a wonderful Man! I always felt a connection to Arlen, going back to when I was 19 years old (now 75) I had just enlisted in the Coast Guard and when Arlen got wind of it, He invited Me over to His house to show Me pictures of His time in the Coast Guard (about 10 years earlier) He was having a Great time reminiscing About His days on the USCG cutter Chataqua W41 in Honolulu Hawaii. I was about a week away from boot camp and would receive My assignment at the end of boot camp.
Now, out of all of the Coast Guard duty stations in the United States and abroad, I get assigned to district 14 Honolulu Hawaii, on the USCG cutter Chataqua W41!! Over the following years I so enjoyed talking and comparing stories of Our times on the Chataqua (10 years apart)
So, not sure how that situation was even possible, although it certainly gave Me a connection to a wonderful Man, who I shall carry fondly in My memories.
I will miss You My Friend.
