Armando Caputo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 2, 2016.
ARMANDO CAPUTO JANUARY 14, 1935-NOVEMBER 30, 2016
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Armando Caputo on November 30, 2016 surrounded by his caring family. He is survived by his loving wife Maria and his sons Joe (Judy), Mike (Linda) and John (Maria). His grandchildren Maria (Tyler), Gena, Randy, Taylor, Brooklyn, Allyssa, Sierra, Anthony, Matthew, and Nico. Great grandchildren Meriya, Adison and Mekhi. Also his brother Corrado (Pina) and family and sisters Itala, Annina and families. Those who are welcoming him home are father and mother Giuseppe and Catarina along with brothers and sisters Gino, Guerino, Attilio, Vicenzina, Maria and Emma. In 1954 as a young man Armando left his birth place of Malito, Cosenza Italy and traveled to Canada with only a small suitcase containing a heavy coat and a few other essentials. Upon arriving he worked at Alcan Aluminium Plant in Kitimat, B.C. with his two older brothers. In 1957 he decided to embark on a vacation via train where he met the love of his life Maria. It was truly love at first sight by proposing and marrying within 10 days. They were blessed by being able to celebrate this love of 59 years with many family gatherings over the years. After settling down in Kamloops he worked hard in many different jobs including CP railroad, Royal Inland Hospital and Kamloops School Board but found he was destined to follow in the footsteps of his father as a grocery store owner. He first started with the small Italian deli by the name of " Uptown Market" on Nicola Street and followed with the creation of "Gleneagles Supermarket" in Sahali. Unfortunately due to illness he had to sell his store and take an early retirement but this did not deter him from building two houses and helping his sons in their lives. Since then he witnessed the marriages of his sons, the birth of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. As most Italians, he loved working in his garden, wine making and having great family celebrations throughout the year. He always enjoyed taking walks with his beloved dog Bobby and talked often of the time spent with friends made at the Colombo Lodge as well as his "coffee buddies".
We would like to thank Dr. Jeevyn Chahal as well as Ellen and all of the wonderful nurses on 7 North for all their compassionate care. In his words ...Don't worry, they will take care of me..."

Prayers will be recited Friday, December 9th, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in Sacred Heart Cathedral. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Catedral on Saturday, December 10th at 11:00 a.m., with entombment following at Evergreen Mausoleum..
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Royal Inland Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Society in honour of Armando would be appreciated.
