Arthur was born Oct. 17, 1918, in Pierre, S.D., the second of three sons born to Eddie and Martha Conquest. He died March 12, 2005, in Coos Bay.

In 1944, he married Gladys Biggers while in the U.S. Navy.

Arthur served in the Navy from 1939 to 1959. During that time, he served as an aviation ordinance man in Guadalcanal and the South Pacific Theater of Operations for 18 months. He also served in Korea during the Korean War. Arthur spent most of his naval career assigned to several fighter squadrons including the first jets in the Navy. Sue, you're the best!!! You have such a caregiving spirit and have taken care of so many and you will continue to do so - you served your father in so many ways knowing that you could not do it over and had to do it right. Our Lord surely works through you and your love for Him is truly a beacon. So fortunate are Jim and Jimmy, Tammy and Danny and their spouses and all those little grandbabies - In our Savior's love - Marcy
