Banchamlak Abuhay Bogale

Ms. Banchamlak Abuhay Bogale was born on September 6, 1973 in Gonder, Ethiopia in the city of Debark. She attended elementary and secondary school in the city of Dabat. She studied plant science at Jimma University and graduated in 1993. Her father Mr. Abuhay Bogale and her mother Mrs. Sofanit Fetaye loved her and strongly supported her continuing her education. After getting married in December 1996, she moved to the United States. As a devout Christian, Banchamlak regularly partook in communion since she was a young girl and graciously served her Church throughout adulthood. It is with this same fervent faithfulness that she has brought up her daughters in the Church, raising them to become bright and strong women.

The sacrifices Banchamlak has made as a mother are evident by the heights her daughters have reached and the excellence they have demonstrated in their academics. Mahlet graduated from Tufts University with a degree in economics and is now preparing to go to law school. Hywot is studying civil engineering at Stanford University with a scholarship and will be graduating next year. After prioritizing her daughters' educations for the past 20 years, she was now preparing to go back to school herself. Banchi worked in administration at Datamatx for over 20 years where she received many accolades for her tireless work ethic and stellar reputation. Her coworkers attest that she was respected and admired by all. She was deeply devoted to her family, finding time to balance work with her commitments to her family and making sure to never miss her daughters' special moments.

To her family, Banchamlak has always been precious, and her relationship with her siblings remained strong and filled with love no matter the distance that separated them. The friendships she shared were also like no other. She was known for her forgiving heart, sense of humor, and compassion for those around her.

On June 8, 2024, Banchiye tragically lost her life, and today, her mother, daughters, siblings, and friends along with our Church fathers and the Ethiopian community all wholeheartedly grieve her loss. We pray for God to heal and uplift us all as we remember Banchamlak's life.
