Barbara COLLINSON Obituary

Published by Inside Bay Area from May 20 to May 22, 2010.
Barbara T. Collinson Sept. 16, 1929 ~ May 13, 2010 Resident of Walnut Creek Barbara Helen Thomas Collinson was born in Oakland, California. She attended Piedmont High School and the University of California Berkeley and was an Alpha Xi Delta Sorority Sister. She married her beloved husband Barnes W. Collinson in 1953 and they moved their family to Walnut Creek in 1957 where they raised four children. Barbara, AKA Bobbie, battled Parkinson's Disease for many years. It took from her so much of who she was a seamstress and hand-crafter, a chef and hostess, a calligrapher and bridge player. She was the ultimate historian, for family, friends, and the Piedmont High Class of 1947. The illness, however, never stole her true essence. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and loyal lifetime friend until the end. She died in the "Piedmont Room" of her home that meant so very much to her for over fifty years, surrounded by her loving family. She lived eighty years exemplifying true friendship and joy. She was proud to welcome everyone into her home and family. Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Barney; and their children and grandchildren: Tom, Barbara, and Ben Collinson of Santa Barbara; Kacy, Whitney, Makenzie, and Kameron Lynd of Santa Barbara; Cindy Collinson and David Giacoma of Clayton; Kate Cotruvo of San Francisco; Kristina and Blair Ruller, Christopher Ruller, Amy Tigri, Perry Ruller, Gina Tigri, and Hank Tigri of Placerville. She was blessed with many dear friends from childhood through the end of her life. Many cousins, nieces, and nephews also survive her. We will honor her by living her legacy of love, laughter, family. She knew she was loved for who she was. Friends and family will celebrate her life privately. Donations in her memory may be made to: Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland Foundation, Attention: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Our deepest condolences to all of you Collinsons. I got to spend some wonderful time with Barney a week ago, and I am so glad he was there. Our family has fab-o memories of Barbara and the girls always loved her for all she did for them and for being such a great lady and role model. Love to you all.

I will never forget the many wonderful memories of my childhood thanks to my adopted grandma Barbara. I will miss her beautiful french braids, her fun costume jewelry and warm smiles as I walked past her house on the way to Tice Valley. You will be so missed!

Mrs. Collinson,
While we never met, I know you must have been an amazing woman to have raised such a wonderful daughter in Kristina. The apple doesn't usually fall too far from the tree. She always spoke so highly of you and Pop and I know you will be truly and dearly missed.

Mom!
You forgot to write down EVERYTHING you know! Dad and I were lost at the grocery store when we didn't know a neighbor's name; we had to IMDB the movie Gigi to remember some of the actor's names, and I need some phone numbers and I can't read Dad's writing! We appreciate all the other strings you've been pulling up there, and please look after Navi as he travels to Spain! xoxo bub

Dear Mrs. Collinson,
I would like to thank you for all that you did in raising such a wonderful family. We have spent many wonderful years raising our children, camping, going to the beach, BBQ’ing and cookie decorating and with Kacy and her family and Tom and his family. We also had the pleasure to play in the sand on a few occasions with Cindy, Kristina and their families during some of their many visits to Santa Barbara. No finer people could we ever hope to meet. They will miss you so. Venessa, Peter, Bekki and Stacy Hornemann.
