Barbara Ellerbrock Obituary

Published by The Kingwood Observer from Oct. 18 to Oct. 31, 2011.

After a hard fought battle with leukemia, Barbara Ann Ellerbrock, 62, of Point Blank, Texas was called home to heaven on October 16, 2011 with her husband at her side. She was born on January 1, 1949 in Sandusky, Ohio to Alvin and Helen Knauer. She graduated from Whitmer High School and then from Bowling Green State University with a B.A. in education in 1971. That same year she married her high school sweetheart and soul mate, Michael Ellerbrock in Toledo, Ohio and began her career teaching third grade in the Washington Local School District. When a son, Thomas was born in 1974 she quit teaching to become a full time Mom. Later a daughter, Sheri was born in 1977. She joyfully followed her husband as his job moved from Toledo to Dallas Texas, Longview Texas and finally Kingwood Texas where she lived most of her life. When her two children began middle school she went back to teaching third and fourth grade in Humble ISD. She retired from teaching in 2007 and began enjoying life to the fullest. When Mike retired in 2011, they moved into their dream retirement home in Point Blank. Barb was a member of the Kingwood United Methodist Church and loved singing in the choir as well as attending bible studies and helping out around the Church. She loved working with children as an elementary teacher and just adored her four grandchildren. In the past 5 years or so she and Mike spent most weekends traveling around the state with their motorhome attending camping rallies with their many camping clubs. She enjoyed loading up the coach and heading down the highway on another adventure. She was looking forward to many extended camping trips around the country with Mike after his retirement. Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin Knauer and Helen Abele of Fort Myers, Florida. She is survived by her loving husband Michael, son Thomas and wife Patricia, daughter Sheri Ware and husband Phil, her precious grandchildren Jacob and Zachary Ellerbrock, Reece and Hailey Ware, and her brothers Ken Knauer and wife Jennifer, Norm Knauer and wife Carol, and Richard Knauer and wife Pat. Barb was a loving wife, mother, grandma and friend to many. She will be greatly missed by all those that were touched by her smile and random acts of kindness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in support of The American Cancer Society in Barbs memory. Barb's life will be celebrated at noon on Thursday morning, October 20th at the Humble Rosewood Funeral Home. The service will be at 12 noon with visitation beforehand at 10:00 am.

Mike- I am so sorry to hear of your loss of Barb. I also lost my husband to cancer (GBM) 3 years ago and now live in Maumee, Ohio. You and your family were good neighbors on Harvest Lane. Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you. God bless you and your family.

Barb was a special person and I feel honored to have known here since college. We had some great times when she lived in Toledo and when they would stop by or meet at Loma Linda's when they were here visiting. Sorry I didn't get to see her this summer but will pray she is resting good now and that Mike can be strong and get through this terrible time. Love in AOT!

Mike, and the family Barb so loved, we are thinking of you and praying for you. Sonny was in the Hospital through last night. We could not be with you. We love you and will cherish the wonderful times, memories, and love we shared with you both. Barb was so special. She would light up a room by just walking in. She loved and cared about everyone and everyone loved her. I have never seen her upset or mad at anyone or anything. I know you will find peace in knowing she is in the loving arms of Jesus. Praise God!

Miss Barb, I will miss you forever. I am so blessed to have had you as a "second mom" for almost 26 years and now as a guardian angel. You were not only a wonderful and loving wife, mother, and teacher but an amazing friend as well. When my own mother was fighting cancer, you were always there to help our family. I love you like I love my own mother and take solace in the fact that you are now in peace. You continue to inspire me in my career as a teacher and in my faith as well. Sheri, Tom, and Mike I am so sorry I couldn't be there with you. I hope you know you are in my prayers. I love you all and hope you are finding comfort.

The angels have received the best we had to give. Barb will be greatly missed by all of us. Her cheerful and up attitude helped us through our tough times. Her beautiful smile brightened our lives. Now she is held gently in His arms, but she will soon join the chorus, and burst into her infectious laugh. Mike, Tom and Sheri, we hold you in our hearts and prayers, Pat and Charles Dinhoble
