Barbara Friedman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 11, 2024.
In loving memory of Barbara Dockman Friedman:

Barbara Friedman, a beloved mother, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at the age of 85.

She was in relatively good health when she traveled to San Diego this past April. To visit family and friends. Which she joyously accomplished. A lover of ocean sights and sounds. The Pacific drew her to the beach. Where an unexpected fall occurred that led to urgent hip surgery and complications. Throughout the stressful and unsuccessful recovery, her sons, family, and friends surrounded her until she peacefully took her final breath.

Breakfast solace with Barbara: Coffee and bagel with cream cheese, daily. Like her friends. It was her ritual of comfort, companionship and connection. In that, wherever she went. She saw content faces and conversation. As Barb mentioned to Rodney, while looking at the beautiful snow capped Sierra Mtns. of Mammoth Lakes, CA.

Barbara was born on June 16, 1938 to Zola & Rosalyn Dockman in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was there where she developed her love for family, community, and life. In Minneapolis she met and married Larry Friedman. Married, they soon moved to the Chicago area, where she resided until 1976.

As life goes on and relationships change. Barbara tranisitioned to New Jersey. There she met William (Bill) Jacobus. A 29-year relationship ensued. Eventually they moved to South Jersey, where new friendships were cultivated. Bill passed in 2019. With a true desire to stay in New Jersey, Barb met and developed a true friend in Allen Planer. They did their best to offer each other companionship. They frequented their local diners and never missed an opportunity to celebrate with family and friends.

Throughout her life's journey, Barbara shared countless adventures and cherished moments with others. She was a loving mother to her sons, Rodney and Jay Friedman.

Barbara's sister, Eileen Dockman-Voreades & husband Demetri Voreades, nephew Noah, and niece Cleo, along with cousin Judy Dockman, held a special place in her heart.

Barbara's zest for life was evident in her daily pursuits. Despite being diagnosed with Parkinson's several years ago, she remained active and engaged. From enjoying serene moments by the water to embarking on a thrilling gondola ride up Mammoth Mountain with her son Rodney. Barbara embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm.

Her love for connection led her to participate in various activities, from book clubs to knitting groups, boxing, and bowling. Weekends were often spent enjoying the company of neighbors and attending Allen's robust family events. .

Although Barbara has departed from this world, her spirit will forever dwell in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and love her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, wit, and wisdom that will continue to inspire generations to come.

As we mourn the loss of Barbara, we find solace in knowing that she has found peace and is reunited with loved ones who have passed before her. May her memory be a blessing, and may her radiant kindness illuminate the hearts of all who were touched by her presence. Rest in peace dear Barbara. Your warmth, laughter, and love will be deeply missed but forever treasured.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Trees for Israel https://shop.jnf.org/collections/plant-trees

As part of the Jewish National fund, this is one of the oldest and most legitimate ways to honor somebody with a tree, $18.

On a summer date to be determined. A celebration of life to honor Barbara will be held at the Silver Ridge Park East community clubhouse.

Ed and I met Barbara when we had stopped in to see my Uncle Bills apartment in the late 90´s and although we had just met we connected right away. She told us that she had met my Uncle with a hiking group and how much fun they had together. When they moved closer to us, we shared much more time with them both. Their personalities truly complimented each other´s and we always enjoyed our time together. Jay , Rodney and family, our memories of them, like all of yours, will make coming time easier. Peace to all of you
