Barbara Jean Gilles Clark, 78, of Owensboro passed away Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, in the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. She was born in Daviess County to the late Herman and Ellen Mordock Gilles. Barbara had worked at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in admitting, but her greatest love was Owensboro Catholic High School. She had been the athletic secretary for a time and a substitute teacher. An avid sports fan, her loudest cheers were saved for the Catholic High School Aces. She loved playing golf, bowling, gardening, cooking, knitting and attending the ballgames of her kids and grandkids. She loved to dance and when she would take the dance floor she could jitterbug, boogie down and bust a move with the best of them. Barbara raised five boys. Her home was open to all but she ran a tight ship. To this day 100s of grown men shudder at the mention of her name. She was everyone's mother. Barbara was also preceded in death by her grandsons, Nicholas Riney, Jacob Puckett and Alex Clark; and brothers, John Gilles, James David "Smokey" Gilles and Bill Gilles. Survivors include her boys, Larry Clark, Steve Clark, Nick Clark (the favorite), Johnny Clark and Brian Clark and his wife, Karen; grandchildren Logan Clark, Mackenzie Clark, Rylee Clark, Maggie Clark, Whitney Johnson (Blake), Eric Neal, Christina Dowdle, Austin Clark, Aaron Clark, Adam Clark and Forest Clark; great-grandchildren Ella Johnson and Devin Neal; the boys' father, Cotton Clark; brothers Robert Gilles (Mildred) and Tom Gilles; sisters-in-law Janice Gilles, Dale Gilles and Paula Fischer; and her most loyal canine companion, Maddie, the rat terrier. Services will be noon Tuesday at Blessed Mother Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where prayers will be said at 7 p.m. Monday. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Heartford House c/o Hospice of Western Kentucky. Condolences may be left for the family atwww.glennfuneralhome.com.
