Thank you for the many thoughts, prayers, and love during the great loss to our family. Although my part of the family is and has been miles away it has not made the grief any less. I was grateful to be with everyone, to share stories, laughter, and tears during Barb's memorial and too meet so many people she has touched throughout her life. Barb was a wonderful mom and grandma to myself and my children. It was always Grandma Barb and Grandpa Mark. Kim and Kris had the special privelage to visit them in Brussels.I can still hear Kris say" Grandma not another church" and Grandma saying "the three c's of Europe, country, church, and catherdal.
Heather and I had a special vacation to Rob and Karen's wedding and then we were off to PEI. Grandma showed Heather how to bait a fishing hook, which Grandma did all the baiting.
I will always treasure our vacation last summer, where Barb continued to ensure everyone always had a good time. Tony and I will cherish that memory forever. Barb was a very special part of my life. Memories never die. I only wish she could have met her great grandson "Greyson".
Love always

Karen,
I know by experience what it is to lose someone you love and care for. It's a process in life that we need to accept that is better said than done.
Take Care and my prayers are with you.

Marilyn and I are saddened to hear of Barb's passing! She was a nurturing and inspiring colleague, often passing on much appreciated gems of wisdom to a younger teacher. And what a great laugh!
We all have very fond memories of the couple of days spent at your place in Brussels (with three kids in tow). Barb was a kind and generous hostess ... as always.
With deepest sympathies

We have lost one who made us laugh, who challenged us at the bridge table, and kept high standards for herself and others. Barb knew how to take you down a peg if you were puffed up, but she also knew how to admit when she had erred. I'm very sad I'll not get another chance to butt heads with her, but I am sure damned lucky to have known her. Thank you to the family for sharing this amazing woman with us.

Marc,

Dear Mark and Family,
Stanley and I were very dismayed to get your message about Barb's passing. Our depest sympathies and warmest thoughts to you and your family. We remember our years in Brussels with great fondness and all the special people who made it such an amazing experience. You and Barb played a major role in welcoming us to Brussels, inviting us into your home, sharing experiences, good food, fascinating travel and lots of laughter. We will think of Barb on Friday at 11:00 while you hold her memorial service.
May God hold you in His arms and help to heal the sorrow that you feel.

Mark, Heather, Robbie & family -
We were saddened to hear of Barb’s passing. Not shocked, as we knew of her courageous struggle. We are glad she is at peace, and we rejoice for a life well lived.
We recall the many great times we enjoyed - family to family - from the late 60’s to the mid-80’s on Lyall street. They were important times. Our kids grew from 2-3 years to 16-17. I know our kids benefited greatly from the many interactions we had, on the street, at birthday parties, at school, at arenas, at ballparks - all good memories.
I’ll never forget going head to head - coach to coach, in the championship game for Parkwood Hills girls softball against Barb. I can’t remember who won - only that I was glad it was over. What a fierce competitor! And the help she gave me in my quest to run a marathon - her knowledge of the body and of nutrition, got me through. And who can forget the Sunday curling - or should we say the late night get-togethers afterwards.
All good memories that our family will cherish forever. We realize your loss is much more personal and deep rooted, but we pray there will be a time when you can remember only the good times, and move on to the next phases of your own challenging lives, as she would expect, as she indeed did herself.
love

Alex and I send our sincere condolences. When I first started teaching at Philemon Wright, Barb was the female head of the department and welcomed me with all the sincerity of a professional. Being a new teacher, she acted as a mentor, friend and confidant paving and smoothing the way for me. I remember her as a special colleague and friend.

We dreaded the day but knew it was inenvitable. Barb's fighting spirit and acceptance of her illness was a beacon for all who knew her. We recall the many pleasures of being with her and Mark in Germany and in our home in Florida. Their obvious love and caring for each other was inspiring. Bud and I will always remember and cherish the times we were with them, and regret that they were so few. Our thoughts go out to Mark and the family.

Barb's courage, perseverance and optimism these past couple of years is a tribute to how she lived her life. Barb spirit was a gift deeply treasured by her family and friends. She will be missed beyond measure. Truly an incredible woman. My prayer is that you find comfort that she is now completely healed, free from pain and reunited with family that has gone before.

Sneaking Dilly Bars, canoe bobbing, a wallpaper disaster, a pipe, midnight biffy runs, tears, fears, and snears. All shared with my Bobbie. Hour long phone calls filled with laughter. My counselor, adviser, mentor and a remarkable woman. I have been privileged to call her my friend and honored to say "I'm Barb's niece". To my family I pray you will have "peace that surpasses all understanding", and I wish you "kind love".
