I have just, by accident, seen the upsetting news of Barry's death. He was a staunch monarchist and will be greatly missed by many people.

O Mr Barry Byrne of Mt Isa, I'm shocked to hear that you're gone. I will miss you. You spoke so clearly and cheerfully, and I loved the way you celebrated the Queen's birthday in the library. I particularly loved your sign-off - "I bid you and everyone at the ABC a goodnight. You're a wonderful public institution...." etc. I was always happy when I heard your voice. I'm sad that I'll hear it no more.

I will miss your voice Barry, on ABC's Nightlife radio.
It was always such a joy to hear you call in, your interesting comments, & to find you were having the lovely morning teas celebrating various events for HRH, Queen Elizabeth, & to hear you say that you generously provided them yourself.
I always thought how lovely it would be to attend & meet you.
You were such a lovely soul & a respectful & knowledgeable gentleman.
How beautifully & politely you always signed off from the ABC.
We are all missing you my friend.
Rest easy Barry & enjoy your cuppa

My deepest condolences to Barry's family

Rest In Peace, Mr Barry Byrne of Mt Isa. You brought such a positive spirit to Nightlife on ABC radio. Your support of the ABC, love of the royal family and updates of your activities in Mt Isa were always enjoyed. I'm sure I speak for other listeners when I say we all felt as though we knew you personally.
I particularly enjoyed your sign-off (spoken to the ABC announcer): "I'll bid you and everyone at the ABC a good night. You're a wonderful public institution; I emphasise the word 'public' which deserves much more support and funding than it gets."
Hear hear. Vale Mr Barry Byrne.

Fly high, my Time Lord friend!

Very saddened to hear about this only this morning- wondered why I couldn't get Barry on the phone. I had the privilege to call Barry my friend for over 30 years. Our common interest in Dr. Who (& science fiction generally) led to many conversations, viewings of old VHS recordings & countless cups of tea. He had a true heart of gold & would do anything for anyone. His posh accent took some people aback but I always found it quite refreshing & individual in a place like Mt Isa. Whilst I'm not close to his family, I'd like to offer my sincere condolences to Neil, crocky & Barry's other sister ( sorry- can't recall your name). The world is now a lesser place with Barry gone- I will truly miss him.

Hearing Barry was always so special for both me and my husband. He was such a unique caller on ABC Night Life. He has left an indelible memory of him and his attachments to the ABC the Monarchy and Mt Isa. Sorely missed by so many of people who would have known him and those he did not. Vale Barry Byrne - Mr Barry Byrne of Mt Isa.

I always enjoyed hearing you on Night Life Barry. I wish I'd known you when I lived in Mt Isa. Unfortunately, my job was too demanding to listen to the quiz. You'll be missed by all the Night Life family. RIP. ELIZABETH
