mr glick/ barry glick was a good man he was strict sometimes but that is only because he wanted to teach us he was funny he taught us alot and when a heard he had died due to tornado damage my hearted dropped i wish i could have the time to thank him i will always remember him and hope for the best knowing i will hopefully see him again.

Mr. Glick was such an important influence on me as a student, as so many others have shared. I was an awkward, quiet 7th grader who lived for those check pluses! He really inspired me to strive for excellence in all things and planted seeds for a curiosity of medical science and the brain that is still with me today. I'm a grief and trauma therapist and do a lot of brain/body work. My biggest regret is that I didn't share more of that with Mr. Glick before his passing. Feel so privileged to be called one of his former students! My deepest condolences to his family and those who will miss him so much. ❤

Barry and I grew up together as cousins in NYC. We always stayed in touch even when we were far apart. I loved our conversations as they were always full of Barry’s humor. I will miss him so very much.

I truly believe I would not be the person I am now, without Mr. Glick. He taught me discipline, culture, and best of all, to do the best and not to settle for mediocre. From being a team leader in his class, Go Team Golf!, the field trips to operas and plays, and the infamous Europe trip, I have learned so much and have taken that with me throughout my life. He was hard on us but, I can only thank him now for being that teacher who treated us like adults, and pushed us to be our best. When I heard the news of Mr. Glick's passing, it was devastating. I am so grateful to have been able to learn from this true legend and I can only hope to make him proud of his impact on all of us. I send my deepest condolences to his family. Rest in Peace Mr. Glick, I can't thank you enough!

Teachers are amazing. We don't always appreciate them when they are teaching us, but as we grow up we are thankful for their wisdom and patience. In two words, Mr. Glick shaped the lives of so many students. "Medulla Oblangata." No one will ever forget those words, and no one will ever forget Barry H. Glick. Rest in peace Mr. Glick. You will always be "Best in Class."

I think of Mr. Glick with fond memories. I was not a great student but he always made me feel as though I was capable of meeting his expectations...and his expectations for all his students was high. I will remember him as one of the best teachers throughout my life (and I went on to achieve two Master's degree). I send my deepest condolences to his family and I want them all to know that he made a huge difference in my life.

Our friend Barry,
We have many happy memories of visits with Barry and Jeanne Glick. They were always fun and interesting to be with. Barry loved telling stories about his years of teaching and how proud he was of his students. He was also very proud of his service to our country as an Army officer. His passion for history led to him founding the Ocean Ridge History Club. The club members appreciated his gifts of time and organization to make sure there was a presentation each month for more than 10 years. Barry’s introduction of the presenter always included his brief stories of “this day in history.” Barry’s historical presentations to the club were always well researched and professionally delivered.
It is with a heavy heart that I write these words. As a fellow soldier I am proud to salute you, Barry. Jack and Jean Heslin

Just like many others, Mr. Glick was my 7th grade teacher. I was by no means his star pupil, but being his student changed my life for the better. I remember his grading scale consisted of failure, serious failure, and very serious failure. I received my first F from Mr. Glick and it was the most devastating thing I ever experienced. I remember his weekly quizzes which gave you the opportunity to join an elite group of students in the "disk club". I remember feeling so accomplished when I finally made this "club". He taught me the value of hard work. I remember after high school, I would call Mr. Glick every time I reached a new milestone in life and each time he would always express how proud he was of me, telling me how he knew I would make it one day.

Mr. Glick was my 7th grade science teacher during the 1975 - 1976 school year. My first encounter with him shook me to my core — he was strict, intense, demanding, and gave each of us an impossibly long list of specific items and their format that we required for his class. After school, I ran home and told my mother about the scariest teacher that I’d ever seen. After some time, she calmed me down, and we attacked the list. I returned the next day, apprehensive but better prepared. Over time, I began to understand what Mr. Glick was trying to teach us — organization, maturity, critical thinking, self-reliance, and, oh yeah, some science, too. These are skills that have guided me through the years. My love of science began with Mr. Glick and drove decisions for my major and profession. Looking back, Mr Glick chose not to treat his students like children with his high expectations and demands for excellence, and it was up to us to decide to grow up and stop being children. He was one of the best teachers that I’d ever had, including many of my professors at UCLA. I was lucky to see him at Brightwood reunions and was able to express in person my thanks, appreciation and respect. I will miss him greatly, and I am so sorry for his loss. To his family, please accept my sincere condolences. Mr. Glick was a great man, and I feel lucky to have had him as a teacher.

Mr Glick was my 7th Grade science and home room teacher. He was one of the greatest teachers ever to draw a breath. I have often thought of him fondly over these many years. To this day I use some of the work habits and methods he taught us (always make corrections in your journal with a straight edge, show up and turn in your work on time, keep your commitments...and and many more). Words cannot express what a tragic loss this is. My condolences to his family. See you on the other side Mr. Glick. Well done.

Mr. Glick - I know you said to call you Barry but you were my 7th grade teacher WAY back in the day at Brightwood Elementary and I can't quite bring myself to do that (unless you are going to give me a demerit for that). I think we were your 2nd or 3rd year of teaching when I had you for Science. I was scared to death of getting a demerit from you that year (I only earned 1). But you were one of the most amazing teachers I have ever had. We students at Brightwood had the good fortune to have the best teachers ever. The news about your death was devastating to all of us Brightwood "kids". We just had a Class of '73 Zoom reunion today and you were supposed to join us. We all talked about how much you meant to us. And yes - you are probably looking down at us saying "You could have been more succinct about this whole thing" especially since we went almost 2 hours over the scheduled time. Please know that you were loved by us all for the wonderful job you did with a bunch of 12 year old most likely obnoxious kids. My condolences to your family. Please know that Barry (yikes!!) was much loved by all the young lives he touched over the years. We will remember you and miss you always.

Mr. Glick expected much of us students, and he taught us about the value of excellence and to appreciate the mundanity of discipline underpinning excellence. It was a great privilege to have Mr. Glick as my 7th grade teacher. That was the richest year of my entire school experience and I remember it like it was yesterday. We learned about consumerism through active participation (what 7th grader learns about consumerism?), we got demerits, checks ,check pluses, and check minuses, and learned how to learn while we learned (what 7th grader experiences that?). Mr. Glick provided the inertia for lifelong learning, I owe that love of learning to him and that love of learning has sustained my career and made my life enriched.
Mr. Glick's legacy is profound and impactful. He pushed us to experience excellence with a loving heart and soul. He was like a tough love parent to us, and we felt like he loved us like a parent...he wanted our success and coached us through our failures. As a college professor, I know, like a parent, the effort to care about each and every student takes above and beyond business as usual. Barry Glick was a special person. All of us students are so grateful he touched our lives. (class of 1976)
